I'm living with my boyfriend in the big city while we both tackle university. Being on our own means that we don't have our moms to cook for us! I had to learn how to cook - fast - and thankfully this website has helped me! I try to focus on recipes that are inexpensive and good on the student budget.
My favorite things to cook
I like making pasta dishes, one pot meals, and comfort food. Some of my favourite things to make are Italian sausages with onions and peppers, and homemade hashbrowns. Although, cookies are slowly creeping their way to the top of my list, as my technique gets better.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Spicy hot spaghetti sauce! My mom would make huge batches of spaghetti sauce that was so spicy we'd need ice cream for dessert to cool down our tongues. My brother dubbed it "burny guts" for a good reason. My mom also made wonderful homemade relish that I can hardly get my hands on after our neighbours asking for it.
My cooking triumphs
Probably when I made Sweet Potato Chili to mimic the one I got at my favourite diner... I may never go back now!
My cooking tragedies
I'm almost too embarrassed to say that I forgot to put FLOUR in my first attempt at making banana muffins. I couldn't understand why they weren't rising in the oven, and they came out like running sugary gooey mush in muffin tins. Oops.
