About this Cook
I'm an avian field biologist who does short-term contract work, so I move around a lot. To my non-bird-work-related friends I'm that girl that's into birds but amongst my work friends I stand out for my cooking. Sometimes my field crew lives in a field camp, sleeping in tents, and cooking all our dinners communally over a propane camping stove. However, I like the jobs best where we have a full kitchen as that greatly expands my cooking possibilities. It is easy to make friends by baking cookies to share with my coworkers. Plus I love to foster a sense of community by helping to organize communal sushi dinners and pizza nights. I really like to eat but I love to cook with others in mind. My favorite family cooking traditions
I learned to bake by helping my mum-- one of my earliest memories is helping make chocolate chip cookies and being not strong enough to stir the dough on my own!
My cooking tragedies
My love of baking sweet things conflicts with my desire to eat more healthily! Now that's tragic.

Frosted Molasses Ginger Sandwich Cookies
I made some changes-- I use butter instead of margarine, and half brown sugar/half white sugar. I only needed to bake them for 6 1/2 minutes which browned the bottom but kept them soft. I added spices (ginger & cinnamon) to the dough with the flour and used a different filling the 2nd time, as the filling (without ginger) was okay but nothing special the first time. Very fun as squirrel sandwich cookies.

White Velvet Cutouts
Aside from the fact that the yield is much less than the recipe states, this is an excellent recipe. I only chilled the dough for just over an hour and that is plenty. Multiple people commented on how tasty these were. I'd much rather make these than sugar cookies.

Banana Pancakes I
I omitted the sugar and added vanilla. They were sweet enough the way I made them. Note that I halved it and only got 5 pancakes (I made them a little bigger than 1/4 cup each, which still wasn't very big) so a full recipe won't really serve 6 people. These are great and I will make them regularly when I feel like pancakes!
