About this Cook
What's to say? Middle aged bald guy with a wife, three kids and more pounds than he needs.
My favorite things to cook
Soup. Lots and lots of soup. Chili, too. If it requires me to chop things and cook them in a big pot I probably like to make it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was growing up Mom did the everyday cooking, but Dad took over on the weekend and that's when the fancier stuff happened. Even Mom admits that what she knows she learned from Dad. I don't make much of what he made, but he was the inspiration for me in the kitchen.
My cooking triumphs
I happen to like my chicken noodle soup. The family seems to like it too, but they all have different favorites.
My cooking tragedies
I tried some middle eastern dish involving hamburger and rice on this site and thought it sounded mildly amuzing. Looked forward to it, made it, tasted it and promptly ordered pizza.

Basil Burgers
We enjoyed these and they are really easy. Play with the amount of basil to get what you want. The basil seems to dry it just a bit. These will be a staple here.

Awesome Crab Soup
This is a real winner. The previous reveiwers were right that the wine can be a bit overpowering, but that was just fine with this household. We cannot comment on the suggestion that it get better on day 2 when the crab flavor permeates the sauce better. It did not come close to lasting that long. I omitted the hot sauce. This has pleanty of flavor without it.

Flatlander Chili
Good, but watch the spices. I took the suggestions to use turkey and V-8. The turkey does change the texture. This started getting hot when I added the cumin. Cut the chili powder to 1 tbsp. Next time I try it I will cut the cumin and boost the chili powder in hope of getting a better blend.
