The World's Best Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2005
I used this recipe to make a 20lb turkey. It took 2 1/2 hrs. at 350 degrees. Inside I added 1/2 an onion and cinnamon. This really added to the flavor of the meat and gravy. Also I put butter betwen the skin, and on the outside I added butter, tyme, sage, and marjoram. This made some tasty skin. My family loved the gravy and moist turkey!

Black Beans, Corn, and Yellow Rice

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
This is a great recipe! As others have mentioned it is very versatile. It would make a nice side dish or great burrito fillings (we used it for burritos topped with shredded cheese and sour cream). I make my own yellow rice (1 1/2 cups rice, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1 tsp onion flakes, 1/2 tsp garlic powder) I put all ingredients both the recipe and my rice recipe in the rice cooker and it came out perfect! My 9yr old LOVED it. I agree with others that some fresh cilantro would dress it up; however, I made it as is and it was great. This is also a PERFECT pantry/emergency dish since everything is shelf stable.

Spiced Slow Cooker Applesauce

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
I REALLY wanted to like this and I made it exactly the way it was written; but, sadly there was just waaaaaaaay too much sugar in it and it was just a little too watery. I really wish I had read some of the reviews before making this. I do plan to make this again; however, I will reduce the water slightly and reduce the sugare to 1/4 cup.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2011
Great! Will line the pan next time. I doubled the sauce and it was too much. I also used low sodium soy sauce and that worked just fine. We don't eat dark meat, so I used boneless skinless tenderloins and they were done in 30 minutes. It really would be great on a bone in chicken cut though. I used low sodium soy sauce too since we need to watch our salt intake. EDIT: Now that I have had a chance to eat a whole plate, OMG this is GOOD! We serve it over chicken flavored rice. I don't even like Chinese food that much and I love this.

Chicken Piccata with Artichoke Hearts

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2011
I'm sorry, this was not a hit with my family. Sadly I am allergic to sulfites, so I had to skip the wine and due to doctors orders I had to omit the butter. I suspect this dish would have been MUCH better with those ingredients. If you can't add those ingredients this may not be the recipe for you.

Terrific Turkey Meat Loaf

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2011
This was ok; but, if I make it again I will definetly sautee the onions and peppers first. DS actually cried at the dinner table tonight in protest of the meatloaf and I suspect the white semi crunch oninos had something to do with that. I liked it though, so I might make this one again with that one change in the process.

Easy Slow Cooker Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
I have to agree with the other people who felt this dish lacked flavor. I really thought the apple pie filling would add some great flavor to this recipe; but, it did not. I don't think we will be making this dish again.

Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2012
I hate the microwave popcorn that comes from the grocery store and usually make my popcorn stove top;but, that takes a bit more time, so I gave this a try. It is great! Be sure to mix the ingredients in a bowl first. I was lazy and tried mixing it right in the bag and while it did work, it clumped in the bottom. The second batch was better.

Easy Quiche

Reviewed: May 11, 2012
I'm sure there are more fancy version of quiche and have tasted a few myself; but, the ease of this recipe makes it a real keeper! I was out of baking mix, so I made my own using an internet version. That recipe called for 1/2 stick of butter as did the quiche recipe. I found the only thing wrong to be too much butter in the dish, so if you are out of baking mix and whip some up I would highly recommend omitting the baking mix butter and only use the 1/4 cup of butter the quiche calls for. I promise it will be more than enough. For the add in's you could definitely substitute a different type of cheese, vegetable and meat. I also used skim milk because that is what we drink and used 2% cheese and bacon instead of ham since that is what was on hand and it was still great! You could make a dozen different types of quiche using this recipe.

Deviled Eggs II

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2012
This is a solid traditional picnic recipe. I thought the vinegar might be weird; but, it really works in this recipe. I used 8 eggs and increased the mayo to 3tbs and used a heaping 1/4 of mustard.

Mom's Best Waffles

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2011
I picked this recipe since is was light on the oil. I wouldn't say these were the very best waffles ever; but, I would make them again. Any homemade waffles outshine those frozen discs in a box. I would suggest adding a bit of cinnamon or some other spice to give these a bit more of a flavor boost.

Bar-B-Que Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2011
Ok, I have to admit this sauce turned out way better than I expected and it was super easy to whip up. It is way better than anything in a bottle. As other people have mentioned this is a good basic sauce which you could add a little of this or a little of that to in order to make it your own.

Sorry, we did not care for this one. The texture of the pasta with the rice kinda threw us off.

This is a solid white bread recipe! I love the fact that you do not need powdered milk for this recipe! I made this exactly as written and it turned out great!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2011
We are never going back to store bought taco seasoning! This is so good and it's really nice to know exactly what is in it! I made it exactly as written. I love the red pepper in it; but, it might e a little spicy for kids. I'll probably leave it out or half it next time since my son does not like spicy food. This is a keeper!

Thanksgiving Flavored Turkey Burgers

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2011
I gave this a four star rating even though I probably will not make this often. Basically the toppings- whipped cream cheese and cranberry really make this dish. If you plan on skipping those items, the wow faxtor will be much less. The burger with toppings is a nice way to get your Turkey Day cravings satisfied any time of the year!

Pork Chops for the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2010
I loved this recipe and so did my picky son. Like others, I cut the soy sauce in half and added 1/4 cup of honey. I also doubled the sauce so there were extra drippings for the rice. I will definetly make this one again!

Refried Beans Without the Refry

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
I gave this five stars even though I agree with others that it has too much salt. The reason I still gave this five stars is that even over salted it is clear this recipe is a keeper. I should also mention I am a salt lover, so if I say something is too salty it's probably way too salty for most people. Next time I will try 3 tsp of salt and see how that goes. Also I did not have a fresh jalapeno, so I put about 6 jarred "rings" in. I removed the onion before mashing; but, I left the jalapenos in. If your family likes salty food this might be ok. I'm sure my son will not eat this batch though, so next time I may only put 3 rings in and remove them before mashing. I did not need to add any reserve liquid for mashing.

Kettle Corn

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2011
This was so good! Out microwave died this week and with the holidays coming it will not be replaced any time soon. I dug out my Pro Popper (stove top popper) and made this. I used about 2 tbs canola oil and added 1/3 tsp salt since I love the sweet and salty flavor combination. It turned out great! This is a real keeper for us!
