Brown Family's Favorite Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2005
This pie was fantastic! I was wary of making the topping because my boyfriend doesn't like walnuts or anything very sweet on pies, but it turned out perfect. I would definitely reccomend making the topping. It is delicious. Thanks for this fabulous recipe!

Vegan Split Pea Soup I

Reviewed: May 4, 2010
This soup turned out great. I substituted a few things because of what I had on hand. I was out of barley so I replaced it with a 1/2 cup of Trader Joe's harvest grains blend (couscous, orzo, baby garbanzo beans and red quinoa) and added about 8 small baby red potatoes. Also replaced half the water with vegetable stock and added just a touch od red pepper flakes. We were out of celery so it didn't make it into the soup. The consistency was perfect and it was well liked. We will definitely make this again and will also prepare the original way, which I'm sure is wonderful. Thanks for the fantastic recipe!

Vegetarian Moussaka

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2010
Excellent! We increased the amount of veggies after reading previous reviews, to the following: 2 eggplants, 2 large russet potatoes, 3 zucchini, 2 cans peeled/diced tomatoes(one can drained and the other can with liquid included), 3 cloves of garlic and a tsp of cinnamon in the tomato mixture. We used 3/4 package of pre-cooked lentils from Trader Joes which did not have any liquid. We doubled the ingredients for the sauce and used the following: plain soymilk with a dash of allspice (because we ran out of nutmeg). The dish has been out of the oven for almost an hour and seems to be holding up pretty well. Some liquid seeped out after we cut it but the texture is great. I expect that it will taste even better tomorrow after the flavors have had time to meld together. Side note: The amount of ingredients that we used filled up a 9X13 pan exactly to the top of the pan. We would highly recommend this recipe.

Italian Creme Layer Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2008
I made this for a friend's birthday and it was a huge hit. It is a very dense and rich cake. I doubled the frosting because I needed more to fully frost the cake. I will definitely use this recipe again.

Holly's Smoked Salmon Pasta Salad

Reviewed: May 28, 2007
This salad had a great combination of ingredients and a nice flavor. We tried it with blue cheese dressing and it was just "okay" but when we used italian dressing it was excellent. Thanks for the yummy recipe!

This recipe turned out wonderfully. Other than substituting extra shrimp instead of the clams I followed the recipe exactly and was very pleased with the results. I made it for my mom's birthday and everyone loved it. Thanks for the recipe!

Quinoa Chard Pilaf

Reviewed: May 5, 2010
Delicious! I substitued black beans because I was out of lentils and also used a grain blend that included(quinoa, israeli couscous and red garbanzo beans) in place of plain quinoa. It turned out great. I can't wait to make it again with lentils. Thanks for the excellent recipe!

Chinese Restaurant Almond Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2005
These cookies turned out delicious! The only things I changed a bit are as follows: I used unsalted butter instead of lard, 3/4 cup white sugar & 1/4 cup brown sugar and 3/4 Tablespoon of almond extract. My boyfriend who does not care for cookies or sweets loved them. I know it is a great recipe if it can please him! :) Thanks for the recipe!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2010
Delicious!! This recipe is perfect as written. The only difference: I used wheat flour in place of all-purpose flour. Upon taking out of the oven, the cookies are chewy and slightly crisp around the edges. Wonderful.

White Chocolate and Cranberry Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
These cookies have an excellent flavor. I followed the recipe to a tee other than reducing the white sugar to 1/4 cup as suggested by other reviewers and adding 1/2tsp almond extract and 1/2tsp vanilla extract instead of the brandy. There turned out perfect. Thank you for the wonderful recipe!

Speculaas

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2005
One of my co-workers requested these for her last day of work with us, but I had never heard of them. I wasn't sure of what to expect but the cookies turned out delicious. They are just sweet enough and would be perfect with tea. I left the dough in the fridge for about 3 1/2 hours and it was so cold I couldn't work with it. I would chill it for about 2 hours next time. I found the recipe to be very easy and very good. I would highly recommend it. Thanks Laura!

Jordan Marsh Style Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2005
These muffins turned out great. I only slightly modified for our preferences. I used whole wheat flour, 3/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar and butter instead of shortening. I didn't sprinkle any sugar on top and they were still delicious. I will definitely be making again. Thanks Laura!

Graham Cracker Muffins

Reviewed: May 2, 2005
This recipe is good but plain. I followed the recipe exactly but added chocolate chips to some of the muffins. They tasted much better than the muffins without chips. Nuts would also have been a good addition.

Mom's Island Treasures

These cookies were a big hit when I brought them for my co-workers. I used bittersweet chocolate instead of milk chocolate because it was what I had on hand. The pecans really complemented the other flavors in these cookies. Very tasty!

Chocolate-Zucchini Cupcakes

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2006
These cupcakes were very tasty. I followed the recommendations of Henri Smith and used a 3.5oz Ghiradelli bittersweet chocolate bar, applesauce and cinnamon. I thought that the walnuts added a nice touch to the cupcakes but they would have been good without them also. Thanks for the great recipe!

Coconut Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2008
These muffins turned out very moist and fluffy. The consistency was perfect. I followed the directions exactly other than adding 1/2 Cup of Coco Lopez(cream of coconut) instead of coconut extract and using soymilk instead of milk. The topping is delicious also. Thanks for the excellent recipe!
