Oaty Cereal Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2006
These were really really good and super easy to make (it took no time at all!) I made mine with 2c slightly crushed golden grahams cereal and 1c toasted oats. I also used natural peanut butter and they turned out delicious. Sweet and very peanutty. Next time I make them I'll add raisins and nuts, and I'll double the batch because I thought they came out a bit thin. Mine never really hardened completely but they were great just the way they were. I'll be making these over and over - so many possibilities!

Crisp Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2006
Very good cookies, but still not my favourite! I really liked the crispness, as compared to most oatmeal cookies which are very chewy. I added white chocolate chunks and semi-sweet chocolate chips to mine, as well as some cinnamon, and they were quite good. I only got 2 dozen though, so next time I'll double the recipe. I thought they could use a few more oats (they weren't distinctly "oatmeal", if I didn't know I may not even have noticed the oats!). I enjoyed them though and I know they must have been good because there were 1.5 dozen left when I went to bed at night and only 2 cookies left when I woke up early the next morning!

Sweet Potato Minestrone

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2006
Very easy to make and very delicious. I changed up the recipe a bit. I used a can of crushed tomatoes instead of the diced, and added about another 3 cups of chicken broth because I found it didn't have enough liquid. I also used mushrooms instead of the beans, and added some extra basil and italian seasoning. It turned out utterly delicious and was very easy and quick to prepare. I'll be making this one again!

Mediterranean Chickpea, Tomato, and Pasta Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2006
This soup turned out ok, but I do agree that it was missing something, as another poster pointed out. I can't really say what that "something" was, but I know it was something! I ended up adding about another 2 cups of broth because it was so thick, and it still turned out with very little liquid. It was very quick and easy to make and had an interesting taste, but I don't think I'll make it again.

Linzer Torte Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2005
These cookies turned out very very tasty, and only lasted a day in my house. My only problem was the whole rolling out of the ropes thing - it just wasn't happening with my dough. I did end up getting the ropes made though, but there's was no way I could roll them without the dough falling apart. They were thus a bit time consuming to make, but in the end, the taste was worth it. I think I may make these again soon.

Oh my gollie, these are delish! This was my first time ever making or even tasting snickerdoodles - and I'm hooked! Crunchy and sweet on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside - just perfect! And so easy to make!

Butterscotch Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2005
These cookies were a hit in my family. My brother requested gingerbread cookies since its the holiday season, so I found many recipes but decided to make these. I made half a batch without chips and half a batch with white chocolate chips. I haven't had any yet but everyone says they're delish. If I ever make gingerbread again I'll be making these.

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2005
I thought these turned out really good. I made them almost fat free by substituting the oil with one mashed very ripe banana. I also added some frozen blueberries, and used half whole wheat flour. They tured out just great for such healthy muffins! They rose up really nicely and had a great crust on the outside. Mine made 9 regular sized muffins. This will be my new muffin recipe.

Chocolate Toffee Crunch Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2005
These were pretty good. Nice mix of graham, toffee, and chocolate flavours. The only thing is that I'd like a bit less crust and a bit more toffee. I also added a bit more chocolate chips than was called for, because I was hesitant about being able to spread only one cup of chocolate over the bars without making a mess. Very tasty overall though, and I think I'd make them again!

Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal Raisin

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2005
Mmmmm, these are some really tasty cookies. They're kinda like little muffin tops, but chewier. They're really a nice texture, soft and chewy. The taste is really special too. You bite into one and you can't tell if it tastes more like PB or more like bananas! Soooooo good though, the PB and banana are most definitely a divine combination. I used two mashed bananas instead of only one, but other than that I kept the recipe the same and they turned out perfect (actually, I also used natural PB, you know, like just pureed peanuts). They're really quick to make too. This recipe's definitely a keeper!

Delicious and easy. Good with some lemon juice and rind. Cut the sugar back to 1/4c and they are still plenty sweet for me.

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2005
These turned out so good. I toasted my pecans for a few minutes before adding them, and I didn't bother chopping them. Also, I lined my pan with foil and then greased the foil, and had no trouble removing them from the pan. I absolutely love pecan pie, but often find that it is made too thick and is thus overly sweet and rich. These were the perfect solution. Not too thin, not too thick. The crust was really nice and buttery an excellent texture, and the filling was perfectly gooey and sweet. Everything about these was great. I got 32 quite large bars out of mine, and they disappeared pretty quickly! I'll be making these again!

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2005
REALLY good. Made this for a BBQ and they were so good. I made a double batch...which yielded about 16 regular sized and 24 minis. The minis I cooked about 15mins. I also used low fat cream cheese for the filling and they turned out just as great. The filling is so creamy and delicious. Mmmmmm, love this recipe.

Michelle's Peanut Butter Marbled Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2005
These brownies were delicious! The brownie part was just how I like it, super fudgy, dense, moist, and VERY chocolatey! My sister and I made them this morning, and we added peanuts to the peanut butter mixture. My only complaint is that the brownies were not peanut-buttery enough. If I hadn't made them myself I don't know if I even would have known that they were supposed to be PB. But heck, the brownies were so darn delicious that that made up for everything. I'll most definitely be making these again. These are not just your average brownies!

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2005
I've made this so many times by now and every time I make it it comes out perfect. The three loaves never last. It's excellent toasted with peanut butter and jam. It's plainly divine. Instead of many one big roll and cutting it, I just divide the dough in three and roll each out individually. Sometimes I add chopped apples to make cinnamon raisin and apple bread. It's just sooooooooooo good! Also, the recipe is fool-proof. It's impossible to mess this one up, it works every time.

Banana Date Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2005
These were really really yummy. I changed the recipe a bit by cutting out the dates and adding a cup of chocolate chips instead, and they turned out great. Also, I had to double the recipe for the icing, because the regular amount simply wasn't going to cut it. Next time I make them I will omit the lemon juice from the icing and simply add milk instead, so it's just like vanilla icing. I found that the whole lemon taste didn't really match the bars at all. Other than that though, they're were delicious and I just love them. Chewy and moist, and even better straight from the frige! Mmmmm!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2005
Oh my gosh, these are to die for. They're so dense, moist, and chewy, and the chocolate chunks just add the perfect touch. I just finished eating one and the taste is still in my mouth...it's sooooo good! I have to admit, they looked a bit scary after I swirled them and before I put them in the oven, but they came out perfect. I used raspberry jam and cut up Lindt 70% chocolate bars and it's just divine. I also used smooth PB because that was all I had. I had to bake mine 45 minutes, and that's in my convection oven, so the baking time was a bit off, but heck, when they come out this good...who cares!!!

Dutch Apple Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2005
This was sooooo good. My sister made it last night and my family devoured it all within an hour of coming out of the oven. I was astonished when I came to have a piece and there was barely any left! I've never tasted a cake this good in my life. It was absolutely divine. The sugar on top made it crispy and gooey, and she used granny smith apples which worked out perfectly. I can't wait to have it again!

Peanut Butter Chips and Jelly Bars

Reviewed: May 31, 2005
These are divine. My only complaint would be that according to me, they are perhaps a bit too sweet with all those chips on top, so I usually just cut down on the amount. Other than that, they are excellent, and always disappear in a flash. You can even make them with butterscotch chips, which I have done, if you don't have the PB ones, and they still turn out fantabulous.
