California Grilled Veggie Sandwich

Reviewed: May 17, 2013
This was amazing. I doubled the sauce to feed my family. We used the bbq and whatever veggies we had on fresh rolls. I loved the sweet potato, beetroot and potato slices. Very nice.

Asian Coconut Rice

Reviewed: May 17, 2013
This was delicious. I cooked it in a rice cooker exactly to recipe instructions. At the end, I separated the grains with a fork and worked in 1/8 tsp of coconut oil which really made the flavour pop.

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2012
I made this for snacks on the weekend for a get-together. However, they were all eaten before anyone came around! Everyone loved them. I've been 'asked' to make them again, but I'm doubling/tripling the recipe to give some away as gift for Christmas. I just use whatever nuts I have, and use chinese 5 spice instead of the cinnamon. I also use 2 egg whites for a single recipe. They are delicious and seriously addictive!! Rahtoys -- I freeze leftover egg yolks in zip lock bags, and then go hunting for recipes that will use them up eg: lime pie, sponge cake etc

Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2012
These are incredibly sweet. I made them into cake pops and covered with white chocolate. They taste better the next day, though. The flavours mellowed out and weren't so insanely rich. The white chocolate covering then makes them more moist inside, all creamy and dark.

Mom's Sushi Rice

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
I thought the 3 cups was only for rinsing the rice, because it just barely covers the rice in the saucepan. It doesn't say in the written instructions how much water to add to the rice, and because I knew it would be 5 cups yield, I filled my regular saucepan up to the top with water. Well, I wasted nearly half a bag of rice. It's is so gluggy and disgusting. Too much water. It would be great if the recipe could be altered to say, "then place into a saucepan along with the konbu and 3 CUPS of water" if this is the case and you only need 3 cups. As someone who has never made sushi rice before, I have absolutely no idea if this is what you do so any help would be very much appreciated.

Baked French Toast

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2011
This was very yummy, but also incredibly sweet. I put slivered almonds on top instead of pecans and I would urge anyone making this to add some type of nuts. It makes it delicious. But it sticks terribly to the pans, so put down a layer of foil or non stick paper before you bake these. I used a whole french stick and used two pans with one layer of bread. I halved the egg mix and caramel mix between them.

Beat and Bake Orange Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2011
The egg flavour totally overwhelms the orange taste in this. Three eggs is a lot, and although the cake was moist, it was a bit too crumbly. It has a scrambled egg/cakey taste for me.

Beth's Orange Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2011
These were good, very different. They're like cupcake cookies. If you sliced the top off a cupcake and added frosting, then this is what these would taste like. They firm up a little bit more though. There's good yield in this recipe and everyone loved them.

Orange Smoothie

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2011
Cool and refreshing. I used caster sugar (superfine sugar) so it would melt easier in the blender. I doubled the ingredients, but didn't have room in the blender for 20 ice cubes, so just used 14. Everyone really enjoyed it. I might add a bit less sugar next time, but everyone else said the sugar content was fine.

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
These are wonderful!! I followed some of the other reviewers advice. I doubled the recipe, but only did 1 1/2 cups of peeled and shredded red delicious apples with juice, and 1 1/2 cups of chopped grannie smith (didn't chop it too small or too big). I didn't have brown sugar and just used all white for the recipe, including the topping. I added 2 tsp vanilla and about 1 1/2 tsp of chinese five spice. Other than that I kept the recipe the same as if you were doubling it. Thank you.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2011
This was alright, but I won't make it again. The cream cheese mix tasted like dry vanilla ice cream. It was creamy, but dry and essentially flavourless other than the vanilla. I added chocolate sauce to the top, but the cake itself was too dry and not like the cheesecakes that are so creamy and soft and delicious. Mine didn't crack and I used half the flour stated. Next time I'll make one that is creamier and has more flavour.

Shepherd's Pie VI

I really enjoyed this. I did change it up a bit and didn't add carrots simply because our family wouldn't like that.

These are great waffles, but the oil content is mindblowing! If you double the recipe that's a cup of oil!

Rosemary Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
Delicious, but the roux directions are not right for me. I've been taught the ratio 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 with cheese sauce. That means, 1 tablespoon of butter, 1 tablespoons of plain flour, 1 cup of warm milk, 1 cup of grated cheese. The recipe was not dry at all for me with this modification. I used fresh rosemary and chopped fresh garlic, a little cream and fresh grated parmesan. Everyone loved it.

Perfect Apple Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 24, 2010
I am only reviewing the crust of this pie as I had gala apples and didn't want to add too much sugar, so I had to change things around a bit. The crust is the PERFECT one for apple pie. I used 8-9 tablespoons of cold water though, not 4 and did it all in my food processor. I had enough left over from half to make a lattice top and still have half left over for another pie. Thankyou! My search for the perfect crust ends.

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2010
This is a wonderful icing. Fluffy, smoth, sweet (my eldest thought it was a little too sweet so 4 stars) I accidentlally dumped the butter and sugar together and it still worked out gorgeously. So quick to prepare.

Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2010
This is really good. I ony gave 4 stars because I doubled the pumpkin, otherwise it looked too thin to me. I used 4 cups salt reduced chicken stock, 2 cup of plain water with one teaspoon of bouillon, a sprinkle of ground black pepper instead of peppercorns & 1 teaspoon of salt. The cream makes it taste outstanding.
