Hey Good Lookin...

I seem to spend half of my life on the fence. I'm a committed person when I need to be, I just seem to be comfortable in 'middle ground' and see no need to rush one way or another. When I'm ready, I'll make a move.   I've been trying for a while now to eat more vegetable based meals. That… MORE

So I had a great idea (read: someone else had a great idea and I read it) to make a version of chicken pot pie using biscuit dough. I just kind of winged it (read: I was too lazy to find a recipe and follow it). I used a can of cream of chicken soup, half a cup of sour cream, some salt and… MORE

I envy people who possess both enthusiasm and an ability to be consistent. I have enthusiasm, but I am enthused over so many things sometimes that I forget the follow through. In short I can be a little neglectful of one thing while I bubble over with excitement for another. Like this blog.… MORE

When I was little my siblings (and me by default) bought my mother a yoghurt maker for Christmas. I don't remember exactly how it worked but I do know that we ate some variation of yoghurt for the next year straight. This is not a good memory. It was plain old natural yoghurt that we were… MORE

It's true. I have been unfaithful to allrecipes.com. While I am usually glued to this site searching for inspiration, I had some inspiration drop right into my lap from another source. Mark Bittman. Google him. Buy his cookbook. Search his website. LOVE HIM. A friend gave me his Express Kitchen… MORE

Today for lunch I had leftovers made from leftovers. I've come such a long way. There was a day when I wouldn't touch leftevers because it was never as good the second time. Or because it was such grossness the first time, forcing it down the first time was punishment enough. As my cooking… MORE

So I'm not sure how you can make either a good or a bad turkey. It seems like if you follow the directions it should taste the same as all the other people's that followed the directions turkeys. I have learned that this is not necessarily true in cooking. I know this, because of … MORE

I actually just fed my sister's family but there was a lot of food. I made the brown sugar little smokies from this site and they were a hit. I love when something so simple and easy makes you look thoughtful and clever. I wanted to make spinach and artichoke dip, and spicy wings but… MORE

I have nothing to report today. I had oatmeal for breakfast, leftover burrito's for lunch and we went out for dinner. The exciting thing about this is that I didn't add to the landfill by making something inedible either. Has anyone seen the documentary Food Inc.? I watched it today. I have to… MORE

Big day Allrecipe.com-er's. I have added a recipe. Jane's Famous Breadsticks. My very own recipe that I didn't get from this site and that I managed to make without reading 700 reviews first. I really don't know where the recipe came from or I would credit someone. It's types on a piece of… MORE

About Me
In West Philidelphia born and raised, on the playground thats where I spent most of my days...actually thats the Fresh Prince of Bell Air but you gotta start somewhere. I was born and raised in England - the product of an American dad and and English mom and the fourth of five children. My mom makes everything from scratch and her recipes all consist of "use a litte bit of this and some of that and then just kind of throw some of this in." Since I can't find measuring cups with those labels I am hoping to learn how to cook from recipes here and my mom's genious will start to make sense.
My favorite things to cook
I try to go for edible food but it's hit and miss. I LOVE my crock pot and lately my pizza stone. I guess those are things I cook with not actual food items. I like anything with cheese, and am always excited to find cheese and bacon in the same dish.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom would spend days in the kitchen baking. The whole house would smell of baking goodness. There is just something about the taste of WARM bread and coookies. My mother was seriously a genious. I don't know how she fed 5 children without a microwave, and pre-made frozen meals. I appreciate every day what a talent she has and how much it means to sit down and eat as family - something we did every night without fail.
My cooking triumphs
My single proudest moment was when my parents came to visit a few months ago, we sat down to eat and somehow the universe was kind and I created a near perfect meal. And my mom said 'Jane, you've become quite the cook'. Sweet.
My cooking tragedies
Oh so many. I don't want to seem like I favor one tragedy over another and I only have 1000 characters max. so I'll just sum up by asking for a moment of silence for all the meals that now (bless their ingredients) rest in pieces.
