Black Bean and Couscous Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
Made last night to take to friends for dinner and it was a huge hit and will become my new potluck staple! I made changes based on reviews (1 can of beans, 4 grn onions, 1 tsp cumin and double vinegar). And while it was good, next time I will go with 3-4 TBL of lime, 4 TBL oil, 1 TBL of vinegar, 1 TBL cumin and will throw in some cayenne. I also cooked fresh corn on the cob and sliced it off instead of frozen, but only when you can still get good fresh corn. Oh, and I definitely used the whole wheat couscous!

Greek Pasta Salad with Shrimp, Tomatoes, Zucchini, Peppers, and Feta

Reviewed: May 13, 2009
This was really good. I only used 1/2 pound of pasta (bowtie) and think if I used a pound I would definitely double everything unless you like it really heavy on the pasta. I didn't bother to cut the shrimp, seemed like a waste of time to me. If you want more shrimp per bite, just use a smaller variety. I might try some fresh basil next time. I served this for a main course for dinner but can definitely see bringing it to summer potlucks. Awesome.

Dee's Roast Pork for Tacos

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2009
This had an off flavor to me, but that could have been from following other reviewers advice. I normally read a bunch of reviews before making a recipe to adjust to our tastes. I did it in the crockpot and it was extremely tender but the spices didn't seem to work together. If I were to try again I would not use any chili powder (I cut back per some advice), and use more taco seasoning and more oregano and I think add lime during cooking.

Sweet, Sticky and Spicy Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2009
I went to the site to look for a chicken recipe that had ingredients I had in the site and this one was right there as recipe of the day. A total winner. After reading the reviews I also lightly floured the chicken and doubled the sauce. Used cornstarch to thicken and threw scallions in the sauce and cooked broccoli at the end. Used the sriracha hot chili sauce but only half the amount and it was plenty spicy. I see adding red and yellow bell pepper next time also, but you could add any veggies to this and it would be great. And it was very easy! A new favorite.

Simply the Easiest Beef Brisket

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
I have made brisket with my Mom's old recipe for years and decided to try something new. This was delicious and filled the house with a delicious smell while cooking. The only change I made was to add some onion soup mix into the sauce and my only problem was no leftovers!

Swiss Vegetable Medley

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2008
This turned out to be just ok. Nothing to rave about even after following suggestions. Too much saucy stuff. For a really good casserole I much prefer Aunt Millie's broccoli casserole on the site.

Vegetable Lo Mein Delight

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2008
Was looking for some non-italian pasta recipe and found this. Followed many suggestions and added some of my own. Definitely add fresh garlic and i also used fresh ginger and added when i was stirfrying the veggies. Also added some red pepper flakes to the sauce. Used cremini mushrooms which are much more flavorful, next time I will try using shitake also. Made it veggie, but am going to add tofu or chicken next time.Easy and good

Greek Salad Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2008
This was an awesome dip! I followed other reviewer suggestions and used kalamata olives for more Greek authenticiy and added chopped cucumber as well. Used Gardini's caesar dressing. I think it needs more than 25 min in the refrigerator...easily make ahead several hours. This is already a new favorite!

Carol's Chicken Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2007
I have been looking for a chicken chili recipe and have been very disappointed until now. This recipe had a ton of flavor for not cooking all day. I did use fresh garlic which I sauteed with the onion and chicken, and also used fresh cilantro. Will definitely be making often as its healthy, quick and tasty.

White Chili II

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2007
I have been looking for a white chicken chili recipe and will keep on looking because I didn't really care for this at all. The chicken broth roux flavor did not mesh well, and the recipe had spice but not depth of flavor, even after simmering longer than called for. Anyone making this should defintely use the pureed beans for thickening, and maybe even a can of creamed corn.

Anaheim Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2007
This recipe sounded great, but didn't have a lot of flavor. I followed other reviewers suggestions and drained the sauce but it didn't really help with the flavor. I don't care for sour cream, so doctoring the sauce that way was not an option. My family thought it was really boring.

Sage Roasted Pork Tenderloin and Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2007
So simple and tasty to make a really nice dinner. I think next time I will add some other spices besides sage. I did brown the tenderloins like other reviewers suggested. I had no problem with the amount of liquid.

Thai Tuna Burgers

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2007
Once you get the tuna minced, this recipe was simple and tasty. I added more cilantro, and next time will bump up the scallions and spices as well for a little more flavor.

Sesame Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 31, 2006
This was a good fast salad, but needs a few things to spice it up depending on your tastes. Mandarin oranges are a must if you have childen plus they add color. Water chestnuts, red pepper and sugar snap peas would also be good. Added some napa cabbage. Next time I think I'll also add some slivered almonds.Have fun with this one!

Beautiful Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
I served this salad twice for company with rave reviews. Made on individual plates ahead of time with all but the feta cheese and it was a beautiful presentation. Used Sunkist Honey roasted almond accents for the nuts, and giralds white balsamic vinegarette dressing, which i let everyone put on their own amounts. it was outstanding!

Rice-so-Nice

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
This recipe has awesome flavor. I used low sodium beef broth to cut down on salt. Also, I think canned mushrooms are gross, so I sauteed a mixture of button, crimini, and portobello mushrooms and added those instead. Since I use brown rice and a gas stove, i just did on the stove top instead of the oven-- since brown rice takes so much longer. I am still working to perfect the texture/consistency of the rice, but the yummy flavor is worth the effort.

Sugar Snap Peas with Mint

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
Very tasty side dish. Made it twice and first time used more garlic like some of the reviewers suggested, but i thought the extra garlic overpowered the flavor of the mint (and I like garlic), so next time used as the recipe said and it was perfect.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2006
excellent flavor on the rub. Used prime rib roast instead of sirloin tip and cooked to internal temp of 130, but we like medium rare and meat always cooks more after you take it out. Smelled awesome roasing also and so easy!

Southwestern Chicken Stew

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2006
This gets 5 stars for flavor and simplicity. However, it is really a soup and not a stew. I used more cilantro and we added cheese and sour cream on top. You could add a lot of favorite things to this soup. I made a pan of cornbread to go along with.
