Mark's Nearly Famous Sloppy Joes

Reviewed: May 16, 2005
I have made this recipe twice now. The first time it was awful...there was a taste in it that my husband and I just couldn't get past. It was the white vinegar and the liquid smoke. Next time I made it, I deleted those 2 ingredients and they turned out wonderful! I guess you have to make them to suite your own personal taste.

Easy Punch

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2005
This punch was absolutely wonderful! My husband, who is not a punch fan, could NOT stop drinking it. I took others advice and added a bit more ginger ale and a little less water. It was great. I will definitely make again! I also added fresh strawberries to float in it and made an ice ring with frozen strawberries...kept it cold all day!

Banana Cream Pie III

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2008
I absolutely loved this pie! I read the reviews before I made it and made some changes according to what others said. I used 1 box of Instant Vanilla and 1 box of Instant Banana Cream pudding for the filling. I also sliced some fresh bananas and added it to the filling. I know that others have expressed disappointment over the banana slices turning brown...here's a fix for that. After you slice the banana, dip it in lemon juice before putting on the bottom of the pie crust. Trust me, your banana won't taste like lemon. And...your bananas will not turn brown. Whenever I make a fruit salad, I always dip the banana pieces in lemon juice and they never turn brown. Try it, it really works! Other than those few changes, I kept the recipe the same...I used a store bought regular crust, but next time I will either make or buy a graham cracker one...I think it would be much tastier with graham cracker! All and all, I loved it and my family loved it. Very easy and quick to make. I will definitely make this one again and again.

Holiday Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2010
This was EXCELLANT! I made it for a baby shower..I left out the cranberries and pecans because I am not a fan of either. I added about a tbls of lemon juice to the mix. It was GREAT! Everyone raved about it and there wasn't a drop left in the bowl and several people wanted to get the recipe. I just made it again to take on our family weekend...my husband is really looking forward to trying it since there was none left for him from the baby shower! This recipe I am sure to use over and over again!

Strawberry Cake II

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2007
I made this cake for the first time and followed the recipe...I should have read the reviews first (live and learn). I used frozen strawberries as the recipe called for. The cake still turned out excellant, but fresh strawberries would have probably been much better. It is the moistest cake I have ever eaten! The icing (if you want to call it that!) was another story. What a mess! Before even attempting to put it on the cake (and I made the 3 layer one) I added 3/4 of a tub of Cool Whip I had to try to thicken it up and get a better consistency. Trying to frost it was a disaster. The layers kept sliding around because the icing was so runny. And trying to frost the sides was horrible...the frosting just kept pooling onto the bottom of the plate. I finally gave up and put the whole mess in the frig. I thought maybe it would be a little easier to work with if it was cold. It was, but I hadn't quite straightened the layers out them when I put the cake in the frig, so the cake looked like the leaning tower of pisa! I managed to get the rest of the cake frosted. When I presented it at my family party, I apologized for the look of the cake, but hoped it tasted better than it looked. I WAS RIGHT! It was absolutely delicious! Everyone loved it...even the icing. Although next time I will probably just use Cool Whip. All in all, it was a delicious cake, albeit not a very pretty one with that slippery icing.

Sugar Cookie Frosting

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2007
This was really good and easy to work with. I used Crisco and it turned out fine. It took a little while for the cookies to "set up" once I frosted them and once they did, they were great. I am making more cookies this week for a party and will try the other reviewers suggestion and use butter to see what I think the difference is. All and all, a very good recipe for frosting on cookies. Thank you.

Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2007
EXCELLANT! I just made this salad dressing tonight for a family dinner. I used Balsamic Vinegar and Olive Oil and also added a little less sugar than called for. After I made it, I tossed in a 1/2 tsp of minced garlic. My family couldn't get enough of it! The salad bowl was practically licked clean! Next time, I may try the raspberry wine vinegar just to see how it tastes...I'm sure it will be wonderful. Keep in mind, if you use the Balsamic vinegar, the salad dressing will be very dark.

Savory Garlic Marinated Steaks

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2007
This was absolutely wonderful! The only thing I omitted was the salt...I felt the soy sauce had enough salt flavor. It was great! I will make this marinade everytime I grill steaks now!

Simple Grilled Lamb Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
While I liked this recipe, my husband and I are not big on salty tasting things...so, unfortunately, with 2 tsp of salt, it was way too salty for us...I will make again though, but this time cutting way back on salt or omitting altogether. it was a very easy marinade to make and the ingredients are things that most people have on hand. Thank you! I will try again minus the salt.

Oven Roasted Red Potatoes

pretty good - I made them with the Italian seasoning mix. They tended to burn a little in the end. I would probably cook them at a lower temp. next time

Chris' Bay Area Burger

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2011
Very, very good burger! I am not a huge basil fan, so I added just a 'dash' of basil instead of the whole tsp and it was great. The only other thing I would change is cutting way back on the salt. I think this will be my new burger recipe from now on though!

Excellant. Easy to make. I added about a teaspoon or so of Worchester sauce. My kids, who are beyond picky, absolutely loved them!
