I have a wonderful husband who enjoys taste testing my lastest inspirations. The newest addition to our family is our sweet little 9 month old son. I have a Bachelor's degree in piano pedagogy and have been teaching part time for the past eight years. I enjoy eating and cooking healthy foods. Health and nutrition has been an interest of mine for a long time. I also manage to keep very busy in my local church through attendance and participating in various ministry opportunities.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking! I enjoy making yeast breads, cookies, cakes, pies and especially cheesecakes. My husband is a big fan of lemon desserts and I am always on the lookout for new lemon desserts to try. I enjoy making quick and healthy foods. I am learning to plan ahead and do as much meal prep ahead of time. I try to stay away from too much of the processed meals that are out there. I want my family to eat nutritious and delicious meals.
I love Italian and Mexican foods. I enjoy the comforts of American foods also.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I remember Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners being a huge occasion in my family. We all had our responsibilities to help lighten the load. To this day, these two holidays are still very meaningful. My mom allowed me and my 3 sisters to be very involved in the kitchen. She tolerated our creations - some good and others not so good. Both of my parents are fantastic cooks. My mom has a killer sticky bun recipe and my dad makes the best doughnuts on the planet.
My cooking triumphs
I have mastered the art of homemade pizza. Through much trial and error and the watching of Food Network, I have the pizza recipe down!
I also have worked hard to improve my baking skills. My friend is a master baker (on the verge of opening her own business) and I have learned so many tips from her. I have a fantastic filled braided coffee cake recipe. YUM!
My cooking tragedies
I enjoy experimenting with food but there are times that I end up having to throw the food out. I made a coffee cake once and thought that it had finished baking - it had a sugary topping that formed a crust and when I put the toothpick in, it came out clean b/c the "crust" cleaned the toothpick off. Needless to say, it was not done at all and I had to throw it away. I also made homemade caramels once and they didn't set up. The other day, I wanted to brine chicken and then oven fry it. Well, the brine was so salty and it penetrated the chicken so well, that it was unedible. Very gross. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
