Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
I have made this several times Let it set overnight and the nuts were still crunchy ( I was concerned they would get sort) Added the bacon the morning of the party just in case. Use craisins which were wonderful in it. JUst made it for a work potluck and had many requests to make it again for the next pot luck. People were actaully disappointed that there were not leftovers the next day to munch on- and thats a first!

Pierogi I

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2009
I have been looking for just the right pierogi dough for years... and this is pretty close to my Polish grandmas recipe! ( and the best I have found on this site) It was difficult to get mixed initially, but I finally just added water, divided it in 1/3's, and kneaded flour back in till it was smooth and easy to work with. A few suggestions for those of us who are pierogi-challenged: I squeeze or roll the fillings into lots of aprox 1 Tbsp balls, which moves things along quickly once you get rolling- just grab a ball of filling and wrap the dough around it. ( neater too ) Secondly- rather than cut out circles, I set a ball of filling about an inch from an edge, fold the dough over it, then use the glass to cut a half-moon, and pinch the edges together. I boil them and let them drain/dry on a cooling rack, then transfer them to wax paper. Less problem with the underside getting soggy. I use my own fillings- but the recipe for the dough is great! Not a leak in the batchh!

Runzas II (Bierocks)

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
Loved this! The cafeteria at the hospital I used to work at many years ago made these and I used to eat them every time they were on the menu. This is almost exactly like the ones they served. I served them with beef gravy, and my husband asked for seconds- almost unheard of for a new recipe for him. Will see how the left overs heat up tomorrow... if there are any once my son gets home!

The Best Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2010
These were wonderful. I was looking for a lemon bar that was like my mom used to make.. and these wer BETTER! The only change I made was to toss in about a half tsp of lemon zest- otherwise made it just as stated... and i will absolutely make this one again and again!

Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2010
I loved this ! My daughter rated it at an A-, pretty high praise from her! Chicken was very tender. I alternated the chicken pieces with red and green peppers and onion chunks... wonderful!!!

Georgia Peach Homemade Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2010
I loved this! my ice cream maker is small, and I ended up not adding any milk at the end ( just the evaporated milk and sweetened condensed milks) I had very ripe peaches so I just mushed them up well and left some chunks. I think the flavor was great- the additional milk seems like it would dilute it too much for me! Am buying more peaches tomorrow to make more!

Shrimp Scampi ala Norelllaura

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2010
A very good and different scampi recipe! I did not use the flour on the shrimp, but did add a little cornstarch at the end to thicken, otherwise made it as directed and it was great!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

My first try at zucchini bread, and it was excellent. I did double the zucchini per another reviewer and it is still very moist 2 days later. Definitely will make this again!

Peasant Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
This is really great bread! I usually bake once or twice a week, but was in a hurry and did not want to take the time to knead bread today- this was perfect. I made it as 2 rustic loaves, and loved it. It is a nice, flavorful bread, with a nice chewy crust. I will absolutely make this one many times!

Famous No Coffee Pumpkin Latte

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
My new favorite cold weather drink! Made it as instructed, and wont mess with it. Great just the way it is. Much tastier than hot chocolate, and I would like to think a bit healthier too. Great with whipped cream on top, and a sprinkle of cinammon.

Pumpernickel Rye Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
I love this recipe... it has a lot of ingredients to assemble, but is worth it! I make it like several other reviewers, baking it on a greased baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal, with a deep X cut in the top... more of a rustic loaf. It is wonderful warm with butter!

Sopapilla Cheesecake Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
This was very good! The only slight changes I made was to add a bit of cinnimon and honey to the cream cheeses mixture, although it is fine without it. I also melted the butter, and poured it on the top rather than trying to dot the softened butter mixture on top, just because it was easier!

Beer-Boiled Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2011
This has to be my new favorite recipe. And I am not a beer person! Only changes I made were to toss in 2 bay leaves, a little garlic, and a wedge of lemon...and I was debating whether it would be rude to lick my plate! Used a pound of shrimp for 2 of us- and could have used more... cant wait to try this one again!

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2011
Loved this. I think next time I may sprinkle the cajun seasoning on as it is cooking as it was a bit strong for my taste. I used less green pepper since my daughter would just pick it out anyhow. After cooking the chicken I cut it in bite size pieces and mixed it all together to spread it out a bit more,But thought it was wonderful and will definitely make it again.

Cauliflower-Cheese Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2012
Loved this! One of the best recipes off this site! I used chicken broth instead of water, and next time I think I will add more of the veggies, but overall it was wonderful! Served it with croutons on top. Husband and son both loved it.

French Spring Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2012
This was wonderful! I did use chicken broth instead of water, as many suggested, and doubled the onion as I did not have leeks. I used frozen spinach ( all I had) and think the texture would have been much better with fresh, but the taste was still excellent! My son asked for the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.. going to have to make this again soon!

Reviewed: May 27, 2012
This was wonderful! Tasted just like my moms... it was a little runny, but then, so was hers! The next day it was much better. I think next time I will add a few addl TBSP of tapioca and see if it helps. Excellent pie! Thanks for sharing!
