Bread Pudding III

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
Awesome bread pudding! It took longer than 35 minutes for me too...maybe closer to 45. I personally like it better when I replace the raisins with chocolate chips and omit the nutmeg...and definitely serve with either vanilla ice cream or a vanilla cream sauce. Deeeelish.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2007
I tried the chocolate..it was a lot more dense than I was hoping. Not like a cake mix. The recipe on the back of the cocoa box is much more 'cake mix-like', which is what I ended up using instead after trying a few others. :]

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2007
This frosting is delicious as-is. It's easy to make and spread. Great for decorating and the flavor is great. Reminds me of the kind of frosting from a bakery birthday cake. :]

To Die For Fettuccine Alfredo

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2007
This is sooo yummy! Here are a few little tweaks: I used penne instead of fettuccine. I used 1 stick salted and one stick unsalted butters. I couldn't get romano cheese by itself at my local grocer, but I did find a plastic jar that was "Shredded Parmesan, Romano and Asiago Cheeses" and used it in place. I did not add any extra salt and I also used garlic powder instead of garlic salt. I served this with chicken breast that was cooked in butter and seasoned with minced garlic, oregano, salt and pepper and I chopped up some roma tomatoes to top it all off. A side of garlic bread and this was the most delicious alfredo meal I've had!

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
Delicious and couldn't be any easier. :] It is not like the sweet store bought frosting, it just tastes like a slightly sweet, very creamy and yummy cream cheese.

Dark Chocolate Cake I

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2007
This tasted more like brownies than cake to me, only not as fudgey or chocolate tasting. I wouldn't say it was bad, just not what I was looking for in a cake. It was fun to make though, thanks! :]

Granny's Corn Flour Tortillas

I just didn't like these. They had almost no flavor and the texture was way off. I followed the recipe exactly.

Honey Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2007
I was skeptical about this when I first read it, because I thought honey burns very quickly, but I decided to try anyways because I'm a big fan of adding sweetness to chicken/meat. However, I sort of wish I would have just stayed skeptical and left it at that lol. It was such a mess to make! Coating raw chicken in honey is harder than you might think. Especially boneless skinless chicken breasts. The honey just isn't very cooperative. Then cooking it. Well...you have to be SUPER careful not to cook it even a minute too long, or it definitely WILL burn. I had 3 pieces that didn't and 2 that did. The ones that didn't burn were still just a strange texture. The flavor really is nice, but carmelized honey is chewy. Not the most pleasant texture for chicken. I think the ingredients DO taste well together, but I don't know, the frying is just probably not the route to take. I may try oven frying it sometime or baking it to see if it works out better that way..If I feel the need to go through the mess of preparing it again! :]

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2007
These were very yummy and tasted like soft gingersnaps :] My only complaint was that for me they were a little too sweet..so next time I will see how they taste without rolling them in sugar. They really do stay soft and yummy, even while storing for a day or two.

Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Mar. 31, 2007
WOW this is delicious. Tastes just as good, or better than if I were to buy it from a gourmet shop. Relatively easy to make, if not a bit sticky/messy..but wouldn't expect caramel not to be! :] I added pecans to the pan with the popcorn and it's heavenly. I will never buy caramel popcorn again!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2007
These were very good! I followed the recipe as is. My shortening was butter flavored, don't know if that makes a huge difference or not. I cooked them for 8 minutes, and they definitely didn't seem done at all when they came out, but I just gave previous reviews the benefit of the doubt and sure enough, they turned out crunchy on the outside, chewy in the inside once they cooled completely. I really think that I made mine a little bigger than the recipe called for because I only ended up with 30 cookies, however, they weren't huge. To me, they were average size. I put the cinnamon and sugar in a plastic bag and shook the cookies in it one at a time, worked great! Next time I make these though, I will only add 1 t. of cinnamon to 2 T. of sugar because I found these to have just a bit TOO strong of a cinnamon flavor. I mixed all by hand and they turned out very pretty and not flat. So, the recipe AS IS is great! Just needs a little less cinnamon for my taste. Thanks!

Better Than Best Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2007
Very yummy! The cream of chicken soup is a great idea. I let it sit for about 20 minutes before frying..I didn't exactly notice it being 'doughy' but the coating did stay on and was nice and crunchy. Thanks!

Cheesecake Supreme

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2007
I give the recipe 'as is' only 1 star, because if someone followed it exactly, they'd end up with a very undercooked, yucky cheesecake. Even though after an hour of baking, it's obvious that it will have to cook MUCH longer, for someone that doesn't read the reviews first, this could be a disaster/waste. Luckily I did read reviews first, and anticipated having to cook for the 3 hours instead of 1. I didn't alter the sugar amounts, but now I wished I would have. It was WAY too sweet, even for me, and I have a sweet tooth. :]Also, it is better if it sits overnight. Gives it plenty of time to set, otherwise it's a bit mushy. I don't know if there were typos in the original recipe or what, but with the adjustments of cooking time, and much less sugar, this is a 5 star cheesecake. Without adjustments, it's a mess of a recipe. Thanks to all that reviewed with the heads up!

Jay's Signature Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2007
Wonderful crust! The taste was high quality and delicious, and I didn't find it to be bland at all whatsoever. I made it as the recipe states, and used BBQ Chicken Pizza recipe from this site for the toppings and made a 14" pizza, using all of the dough. My cooking time was a bit longer though, about 10-15 min longer. Perfect together..and I will use this crust again with other toppings as well. Thanks!
