Yummy Honey Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2010
Not bad, but nothing to rave about. Nobody commented about them (negatively or positively) and both my husband and 12-year-old son requested BBQ sauce for dipping. That makes this just "an OK" dish in my book and one I'll probably not make again since there are so many other marinade recipes to try. Very simple, however, with ingredients I always have on hand. That's a plus.

Sweet and Spicy Stir Fry with Chicken and Broccoli

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2010
One of the BEST recipes I've ever made from this site! Just as good - or even better - than authentic Chinese take-out from a restaurant. I was so impressed! I adjusted the proportions for our family and increased the sauce so there would be enough to serve over Pad Thai rice noodles. Warning! This is spicy!!!!!! We like spicy, but even I think I'll tame this one a little the next time, so the little ones can tolerate it a little more! I used frozen Asian-style veggies (broccoli, snap peas, mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts, carrots), steamed them and added them to the skillet. DELISH!!! A definite keeper!

Penne with Chicken and Asparagus

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2010
As Randy from American Idol would say, "I'm just not feeling this one." I kept adding more pepper, salt, and garlic, but no matter what, I could just not get enough flavor in this dish. It was way too bland for my family's liking. I didn't have a problem with the "lack of sauce" as other reviewers have commented. We make a similar dish that we really like using Italian sausage, beef broth and peppers and onions. I was hoping this would be the chicken version of that dish. It wasn't. I won't be making this one again. I'm sure I could tweak and doctor until it came out just right, but that wouldn't be the same recipe at all. If you notice, most of the better ratings on this dish include enough tweaks that make it a different dish altogether. Therefore, I don't think the high rating on this dish is meritted.

Chocolate Cavity Maker Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 21, 2010
Today was the first time I've got to personally taste this cake. My sister makes it, but it always disappears before I can get to it. I made it once and sent it with my husband to a picnic. Didn't get to try it that time either. Well, today I finally got to try it...while everyone raves about it, it wasn't as good as I was expecting. Not sure why; maybe I was just hoping for more based on the high ratings. But I'm sure I will make it again since others seem to really like it and it's so quick and easy to make with ingredients I always have on hand. I will, however, try making it with mini chips the next time. I had a really hard time cutting the cake today. The chips stayed solid and the knife didn't want to cut through them cleanly. As a result, it was pretty messy and not the best presentation.

Butterscotch Drops

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2010
So quick, easy and yummy! I used Special K since that's what I had on hand. I also used a natural-style peanut butter which was much softer and oilier than regular peanut butter. Therefore, the cookies didn't set up as firmly as they should have. I'm sure the peanut butter was the issue. No big deal though; my family devoured the entire batch within hours! FYI: I make another recipe that is almost identical except I use Rice Krispies. You press the cereal mixture into a greased pan, refrigerate, and then top with a tub of milk chocolate frosting. OMG!

Eclair Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2010
Five stars because it is so easy, is made with items I always have on hand, and gets rave reviews every time I make it. We prefer it with Jello French Vanilla pudding and Duncan Hines Dark Fudge frosting. Tastes better the longer it sits.

Peanut Butter Mini Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2010
I found this recipe and gave it a try - I mean peanut butter and chocolate is a winning combination, right? Well, I was disappointed. Nobody could tell they even had peanut butter in them - I had to tell them! One taster said, "Well, I could smell the peanut butter but I couldn't taste it. Weird." That's what I thought. They were also really dry, even more so the next day.

Blueberry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2010
YUMMMMM!!! I can't stay away from the pan. So easy and delicious! I used real butter, 1/2 c. brown and 1/2 c. white sugar in the crust/crumb topping and a mix of frozen berries (blue, black and rasp). Because the berries were frozen, I ended up baking it about an hour. It was a huge hit by everyone, including my 12 year old son who usually doesn't like anything that isn't chocolate. AWESOME! Now back to the kitchen for one more...

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
Definite 5-star rating based both on ease and the fact that all three kids love this dish. That's hard to find! I also appreciate the fact that I always have these ingredients on hand. I do increase the seasonings a little and add a dash of cayenne pepper just because we like alot of flavor. I also decrease the amount of butter. AWESOME!

Easy Slow Cooker French Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2010
I must say these smelled much better than than actually tasted. The smell was heavenly, but they were very bland. I used Guiness beer per other reviewers' suggestions and ended up adding other seasonings to kick them up. Not bad but disappointing based on the overall rating. I served them to a group of about 30- have lots of leftovers and nobody requested the recipe or really even commented on them at all - thus the 3-star rating.

Sausage Stuffed Jalapenos

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2009
These earn a 5-star rating based just on the number of requests I get for this recipe. They are always a big hit no matter where I take them. We double the recipe and use half original sausage and half zesty hot. So easy and with minimal ingredients. I made another similar recipe from this site that was much more time-consuming and required alot more ingredients. This particular one, however, seems to win hands-down. Make sure to wear gloves when preparing the peppers. Also know that alot of the heat cooks out of the peppers so they are not really all that spicy. Give them a try!

Marinade for Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
I'm undecided on this rating. I personally wasn't thrilled with it, but the hubby and kids liked it, so I'm giving it four stars, but I think this is being generous. :) The chicken was very moist (I think this is what the kids liked about it), but I thought the taste wasn't anything to rave about. I did reduce the oil to make it healthier, but I don't think that would have affected the flavor too much. Maybe it would have been better without the Worchestershire sauce??? I probably won't make it again unless the kids personally request it.

Blueberry Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2009
This recipe is delicious! To save calories, I skip the cream cheese topping and just top with Cool Whip. NOTE: The posted photos for this recipe (and some of the reviews) are NOT for this particular recipe. Both photos feature a pie with a crust. WRONG!!! This is a jello with blueberry pie filling and crushed pineapple in the jello, then topped with a white cream cheese topping. People, please make sure you are reviewing the correct recipes and posting the correct photos.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough + Cupcake = The BEST Cupcake. Ever.

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2009
The novelty of these cupcakes deserves a 5-star rating, but I don't think the taste was a 5-star. I made the recipe as stated but did use a chocolate fudge cake mix because I wanted the color contrast. I froze the cookie balls for about four hours and had no problems at all with the cookie melting away. I did cook them for about 16 minutes but probably should have cooked them a tad longer as some of the tops caved in and were a little wet/doughy on top. Not a big deal because I frosted them with the Rich Chocolate Frosting from this site and you couldn't tell. I'd definitely make these again - the kids thought they were really cool.

Reheating Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
OK, I don't see the huge timesaver here. What takes so much time is bringing the water to a boil. With the reheating part, you're bringing the water to a boil a second time. In my opinion, you're better off just to boil the pasta when you need it.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
No huge wow factor for me, but it was very simple and low-fat which scores points for me. I followed the measurements exactly but used boneless skinless chicken tenders instead, and there was plenty of sauce. All kids ate it without complaint, but they didn't compliment it either. I'll probably make it again sometime when I need a quick meal.

Slow Cooker Italian Beef for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2009
As written, this was just too bland for me. I ending up using 3 packets of italian dressing mix and upping the measurements on all other seasonings(except salt). Because it was so simple and tender, I will try it again, but next time I will use beef broth instead of water and add some chopped pepperoncinis to the slow cooker to spice it up.

Grain and Nut Whole Wheat Pancakes

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2009
Yummm! Just what I was hoping for. I like to sneak in healthy alternatives for my kids (11, 8, 5) whenever possible. But, to be honest, I'm not usually very successful, especially when it comes to whole grains. They always notice and not in a positive way. :) But, not with this one. While they all three immediately detected this was not their usual "white flour, loaded with chocolate chips pancake recipe", all three immediately responded with an, "Ummm, these are really good." Each of them gobbled them up, and when asked if they'd want me to make them again, they all said "yes." That makes this a grand slam, worthy of 5 stars, in my book. The only alterations I made was adding a splash of vanilla and a sprinkling of cinnamon. I also omitted the nuts to make them more kid-friendly, but I think I might even be able to sneak them by them next time around. Great recipe!!!!! Oh, did I mention, that I absolutely loved them? - just as good as IHOP's. Also, not sure why other reviewer's think they are dry. Mine were extremely moist.

Chocolate Chip Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2009
Not bad, but nothing spectacular. Nice banana flavor and very moist. Kids each ate one and said they were good. The rest, however, sat on the counter for two more days until I finally pitched them. I guess they were good enough to eat, but not good enough to go back for seconds. :)

Chili Dog Casserole II

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2009
This was a big hit with hubby and all three kids. I made a large batch of homemade coney dog sauce and used that instead of canned chili. It was delicious - so much better than I expected!!!! Like other reviewers, I boiled the hotdogs first before rolling them in the tortillas. FYI: I used the small taco size tortillas with regular size hotdogs and they were perfect. I'm really glad I gave this recipe a try - I'll definitely be making it again.
