Banana Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2006
What a beautiful photo! What a simple idea. HOWEVER...I would like to title my review of the recipe... Hard Cooking Lessons Learned From The Making of Banana Spring Rolls. 1. No small children in the room during the making of this recipe. (Swearing is inevitable). 2. If you buy the crisp spring roll skins...you need to soak them before trying to wrap the banana. 3. Do not soak them all together. They will stick like a fly on the windshield. 4. Do not soak them too long. They turn into something that resembles somthing that nasty construction workers cough and spit out. 5. Wrap the bananas and seal well. Otherwise, when they hit the oil, out comes the banana, out comes the sugar. 6. Make sure you have everything ready and waiting in it's place. Burning bananas while you are trying to wrap just sucks! Have the paper towels, tongs, and whatever else ready! 7. Rolling these babies in cinnamon and sugar improves this dessert tremendously! 8. Most important tip. Do not bite into hot banana roll! 9. Make sure small children are still out of the room when you decide to ignore my advice and bite into that hot spring roll anyways. This tasted alright but I'm not sure it was worth the mess, swearing and aggravation that ensued.

Chocolate Velvet Ice Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
The only reason I gave this four stars instead of five is because this is much more like chocolate mousse than ice cream. It is delicious and we added mini marshmallows and nuts. I also added more cocoa powder which I'm glad I did. O.k. I take back the four stars and gave it five because after leaving it overnight in the freezer, this was some of the best ice cream I've ever had! Soooooooooo good!

Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2005
I just got finished eating this sandwhich. I followed the recipe to the T. It was fabulous! I make all the recipes just like they are written the first time. This way I can say if it's a good recipe or not. If I start changing it won't even be the same recipe. So...I thought it was excellent just how it was. Salty but not as bad as other reviewers make it seem. Rich but not too rich. After I made it the recipe way the first time, I added fresh sliced tomatoes the second. It was just wonderful! I don't think I can go back to eating regular grilled cheese sandwhiches after this!

Bananas in Caramel Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2007
I am just dizzy with happiness! This is just delicious! I didn't use super fine sugar and it worked great! It will seperate from the butter and won't come together until you start to slowly add the cream. (Stir it constantly!) It took me about 10 minutes until the sugar became smooth and brown. I don't think it's that long of a time! Soooooo wonderful on vanilla ice cream! Not grainy at all. And it's sweet but hello...we're talking caramel sauce here.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2006
Are you guys serious? I followed this recipe to a T and they were nothing great. I have been searching for a really good ccc recipe for the past few years. I have made dozens of different batches and this one wouldn't even make my top ten. I was really disappointed. I thought with all of the good reviews they had to be something spectacular. The response I got from friends and family was...eh. The dough was just too bland tasting and I think the pudding gave it a bit of a dry floury taste. Now...for presentation I would give this cookie five stars. They turned out beautifully. Nice and round, puffed just enough. The texture was just right. So I don't know. I think I will be submitting my number one recipe and see what kind of reviews it gets because this cookie was nothing to go as crazy about as some of the reviewers have said. I'm almost tempted to try it again just to make sure I'm not off my rocker but I swear I followed the recipe exactly!

Easy Yummy Chinese Chicken Salad

Reviewed: May 20, 2006
First off, using pre-shredded cabbage and a bag of salad mix saved me a lot of time! I made the recipe following the directions but omitted the cilantro because I didn't have any on hand. When I tasted it, it was a very savory taste as opposed to a sweet and sour taste you would expect. I sprinkled sugar over it and kept mixing it in until it tasted the way I liked it. It worked very well. Some reviewers have commented that it is too oily. I used a large bag of cabbage and a small bag of salad mix. It was not oily at all this way. IF you are afraid it might be too oily for you, add a little dressing at a time to suit your taste. Overall, a tasty and easy salad! P.S. So I'm eating this salad and thinking to myself, "Gee, I wonder if adding mandarine oranges would be good?". So I frantically look through the cupboard for oranges and to my dismay there are none. However, there is a can of pineapple. So I added a whole can plus some juice, and wow! This is now a FIVE STAR SALAD!!!

Cioccolata Calda (Hot Chocolate Italian-Style)

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2011
This is WONDERFUL hot chocolate! It reminds me of the hot chocolate that they drink in the movie Chocolat. It is very thick and creamy but that's why I like it. I added three TBLS of sugar because I like my chocolate sweeter. It was the perfect amount as suggested by another reviewer. I also added two dashes of Cayanne pepper, and three dashes of cinnamon to give it that little extra kick of heat and to cut the chocolaty flavor just a bit. It was really good. I know the recipe says it makes two servings but it filled my big mug and I drank it all. If you want that extra creaminess, use either 2% or whole milk. Also, dipping sponge cake in it is heaven!

Cat Poop Cookies I

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2005
O.k. I gave this five stars for the presentation. I took it to my church Halloween party and people thought it was hysterical! I really made realistic looking poops! Curled ones, straight ones etc. Now for the taste. These are not the best cookies by any means. I added brown sugar to try to help out with the flavor, but they are just very floury and dry. If I could rate the taste I would say more like two stars. I'm sure their is a better recipe out there. But really, are we making this recipe for the taste? I don't think so.

Creamy Orange Fudge

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2006
My fudge did not turn out grainy at all! I used cold cream cheese it still turned out wonderful! I also added chopped macadamia nuts which made it super yummy. And yes, you need a bigger pan. For anyone who claims this is too sweet...it's fudge. Hello...fudge.

Cinnamon Pie

I thought this was pretty good. The texture is a little carmelized on top and underneath it's like a pecan pie texture without the nuts. It is very nice with a good flavor. A snap to put together as well.

Seven Minute Frosting II

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2005
YUM! So much better than canned! The texture is all marshmallowy and gooey while you spread it on the cake and then turns into a light regular frosting as it dries. I had to make sure I didn't eat too much while it was in the gooey stage. Yummy yum!

Slow Cooker Casserole

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2006
I really liked this dish. So did the kids. Mother said it was too salty. Husband said it was too bland. Next time I will use the low sodium soup and maybe add a few extra spices for flavor. Very good and easy recipe.

Chicken Stuff

I really liked this and so did my kids. I would suggest drizzling a little melted butter on top before baking to keep the cornbread moist. Adding vegetables to the chicken mix would also be excellent.

Crispy Deep Fried Bacon

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2011
I was excited to make this and serve it with mashed potatoes, white gravy, and mixed veggies. Usually I can never make enough bacon because everyone fights over it and because it lacks so much in nutritional content, I don't make it often. However, I won't make this again. The flour coating is just too bland. I added more pepper and salt than called for and it still lacked flavor. It actually made the bacony flavor of the bacon sort of disappear. My family of seven kinda picked at it and broke it into pieces and mixed it with the gravy. The white gravy is what made this bacon somewhat tolerable. Like I said, we LOVE bacon and I don't even mind greasy foods, but coating and frying this bacon made it bland.

Cornbread Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2011
The first one or two bites is o.k. but after that it's just too much. It is very rich and thick. This is for people who could eat a spoonful of straight mayo without blinking.
