German Spaetzle Dumplings

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2011
Turned out perfect German spaetzle! I used a slotted spoon to press the dough through. It had very large round holes so it was perfect. I made this just to see how it would work out. Now I'm excited to make it for meals. I'm looking for a good brown gravy to go on it.

Mom's Cucumbers

This is excellent and so refreshing! You could also add your chopped fresh garden tomatoes to make it even better! You must refrigerate it for the minimum hour. I would say to let it marinate even longer.

Caesar Salad II

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
What an easy caesar salad to make! I used a bag of pre-cut romaine to make it even easier. I sort of just eyeballed the ingredients and taste tested every now and then. I also added a heaping tablespoon of mayo for added creaminess. We threw in a bunch of cooked bacon crumbles for that extra "yum."

Cube Steak Parmesan

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
My family enjoyed this very much. I had to triple the amounts to feed a family of seven which includes two teenage boys. I used spaghetti sauce instead of making the sauce as directed. After coating and frying the last thing I wanted to do was cook an extra "thing." We served it over whole grain spaghetti. We also served it with caesar salad II which is on this site. I'm excited to eat the leftovers tomorrow.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2011
I LOVE this recipe. I used canned diced italian style tomatoes and didn't drain them. The juice from the tomatoes mixed with the heavy cream make an excellent light sauce! I have also added fresh spinach and olives before. It is really good and the whole family loved it!

Cornbread Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2011
The first one or two bites is o.k. but after that it's just too much. It is very rich and thick. This is for people who could eat a spoonful of straight mayo without blinking.

Crispy Deep Fried Bacon

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2011
I was excited to make this and serve it with mashed potatoes, white gravy, and mixed veggies. Usually I can never make enough bacon because everyone fights over it and because it lacks so much in nutritional content, I don't make it often. However, I won't make this again. The flour coating is just too bland. I added more pepper and salt than called for and it still lacked flavor. It actually made the bacony flavor of the bacon sort of disappear. My family of seven kinda picked at it and broke it into pieces and mixed it with the gravy. The white gravy is what made this bacon somewhat tolerable. Like I said, we LOVE bacon and I don't even mind greasy foods, but coating and frying this bacon made it bland.

Cioccolata Calda (Hot Chocolate Italian-Style)

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2011
This is WONDERFUL hot chocolate! It reminds me of the hot chocolate that they drink in the movie Chocolat. It is very thick and creamy but that's why I like it. I added three TBLS of sugar because I like my chocolate sweeter. It was the perfect amount as suggested by another reviewer. I also added two dashes of Cayanne pepper, and three dashes of cinnamon to give it that little extra kick of heat and to cut the chocolaty flavor just a bit. It was really good. I know the recipe says it makes two servings but it filled my big mug and I drank it all. If you want that extra creaminess, use either 2% or whole milk. Also, dipping sponge cake in it is heaven!

German Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2011
Although my husband and I LOVE sauerkraut, I knew it might be an issue with my kids but I didn't want to leave it out. So, I just put very little between layers. I also browned two tubes of Jimmy Dean sausage instead of using the kielbasa and layered it in. Wonderful! Most everybody had seconds or thirds. We will be making this more often!

German Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2010
The whole family loved this! We used good thick bacon and added lots of sausage slices. We left out the hard cooked eggs just because I didn't have time to boil any. It is a good home cooked, comfort food recipe. It's simple to make and makes the house smell delicious! Made this a second time with the boiled eggs. Delicious! Wish I had added even more eggs!

Curried Coconut Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2010
This was quite good and my family enjoyed it. I served it over rice and with zucchini. I also put red pepper flakes and hot sauce on the table for people to add according to their own tastes. I also left my shaker of curry powder out for people who wanted more to add. The kids left it alone, while the adults had fun spicing it up. This recipe also makes for great leftovers! Thanks!

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2010
Well, I'm just eating my second cupcake right now. The only changes in the recipe that I made was adding a little more baking cocoa and a teaspoon extra of vanilla. The changes I wish I had made were to add milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet. Since the cocoa is a dark, bitter chocolate...adding the milk chocolate chips would have added much more depth to the chocolate flavors. I always mix semi-sweet and milk chips in cookies for that exact reason and I wish I had thought of it in making these cupcakes. I didn't use cupcake liners but rather just generously sprayed the pan with cooking spray and they popped out pretty easily. I baked these cupcakes for 21 minutes. Any longer and they would have been over cooked or burned. For me they made exactly 18 regular sized cupcakes. There was a little extra filling but I made my center dollops a little larger to use more of it up which didn't affect the cupcakes themselves. I think these are decent cupcakes. Nothing super exciting. I think reviewers who added berries or jam were probably onto something good. They aren't the most attractive cupcakes in the world but topping them with a light cream frosting might help.

Hasenpfeffer (Rabbit Stew)

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2010
I enjoyed this recipe. It was my first time cooking and eating rabbit. We just started raising meat rabbits and decided this would be the first recipe we would try. My husband and son loved it! I did add fresh mushrooms and am glad that I did. We served it over mashed potatoes. When we went to the liquor store and told the man we were making rabbit, he immediately suggested a cheap california cabernet to cook it in which turned out to be perfect. The cooking is slightly labor intensive but if you love rabbit, well worth it!

Lasagna Toss

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
I've made this recipe a thousand times. It's nothing fancy and is more for a quick family meal. You can add more spaghetti sauce, mushrooms, whatever. Also, Allrecipes forgot to put cottage cheese in the ingredient list. I submitted this recipe in 2004 and it just got approved today Oct. 28th, 2009. Weird.

Microwave Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2009
This was good for a quick, must have apple crisp, fix. It turned out more like applesauce with a crumble on top. I have to eat it with vanilla icecream and caramel sauce. Best Ever Carmel Apple Crisp from this site is amazing but like I said, need it fast...use this recipe.

Carrot Cupcakes with White Chocolate Cream Cheese Icing

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
O.k. but not the best by any means. The recipe makes a lot of frosting. I don't get the white chocolate part because you really don't add enough of it to notice any white chocolate in it at all. They didn't have enough flavor for me. I would have added a little more of each spice.
