Rich Chocolate Truffle Pie

Reviewed: May 25, 2005
if you like a semi-sweet chocolate chip then you will love this. I personally prefer my chocolate a little sweeter. I made the mistake of using plain whipping cream (not heavy) and thought it was going to be like soup, but once chilled it was very puddingy. I put it in a shortbread pre-made crust and topped it with whip cream to cut the chocolate a bit. I also added about 1-2 tablespoons more sugar. It was great! I think I may try it next time with milk chocolate chips. Thanks!

Nutella® Cheesecake

Reviewed: May 23, 2005
Once again, I am disappointed with a dessert from this site. This was a gooey mess. It tasted just like the recipe sounds. Nothing special. It may be ok for a spread on fruit or bread, but it was awful in a pie crust. It wouldn't cut and you had to end up spooning it out and forcing it off the spoon. I know desserts are supposed to be sweet and I love them, but this was REALLY sweet and I cut down on sugar. I will keep looking

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2006
I did find these to be the ABSOLUTE best! I do have to say i used 1 stick of butter and 1/2 cup of crisco (1 cup all together) I think they are best if you make them right away. I found them to be slightly better then than refrigerating and then cooking. The batter was like a blanket over the chips, kind of flat, crispy, and chewey in the middle. I used m&ms cause I had a lot. I also used the base of the cookie recipe and added white chocolate chips, dried cranberries, and pecans (without semisweet chocolate) They were delicious too. This is the recipe I will be using from here on out.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2006
I enjoyed these. I thought they were actually going to be a little softer. I did add the 1/2 tsp or so of salt and about 1 1/2 tsp vanilla. I still prefer "Absolutely the best chocolate chip cookies" from this site with 1/2 butter and 1/2 crisco. I like a crispy/chewy cookie more, but these were good. Definately needs the salt. Will make again for those who prefer a softer cookie.

Cranberry Applesauce Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 13, 2006
Not sure what all the raving is about. These needed double the amount of sugar. They were VERY bland! I'm not looking for a cake, but they definately need to be a little sweeter in order to be like a muffin. Bread is sweeter than these were. I'll keep looking

Cream Puff Cake

Reviewed: May 11, 2005
This was a good dessert but nothing incredible or different. It didn't really have a WOW factor. At first I was alarmed at the crust rising and "puffing" up, but when it cooled it was perfect!I agree with one reviewer who said you couldn't taste the cream cheese. I am not big on making things from a box. I may try homemade vanilla pudding and chocolate sauce if I make this again. The pudding was a little overwhelming.

Twice-Cooked Coconut Shrimp

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2005
This was good but once fried I could taste very little coconut. I even used the sweetened coconut and there were a lot of flakes on the shrimp. The dipping sauce made them better and added taste. I added about 1/3 cup of pineapple perserves to the dipping sauce and I think it made it better. The orange was overpowering before. I will probably make them again just because they are different and this is probably just as simple as the other recipes out there. The people eating them like them because they don't know how much trouble it took:)

Slow Cooker Cranberry Pork

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2006
Another Ok recipe. Nothing to write home about. Was basically a bar-b-que sauce. It tasted nothing like cranberries or french dressing. I used chicken and once cooked it was soupy. I had to get some of the sauce and reduce it in a pan and then pour over the chicken. Will not be making again.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
I was pretty disappointed. I had to drain this after I made it, despite adding extra cabbage, and it was still soupy. It was mayonaisy like there was no sugar and just overall bland. I let it sit overnight. I didn't think it tasted anything like any restaurant I've been to. If so, they need to find a different slaw recipe. I think the vinegar based slaw is much better-sorry

Big Guy Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2005
I am cheating and just reviewing the crust. I made it to go with a coconut cream pie. It was great. A slight hint of powdered sugar. I suspect it would be even better with a fruit pie like this. I put it with a coconut cream pie with whipped topping, which was already really sweet and this made it even sweeter, almost too sweet. The only downside is the crust crumbled when I took it out of the pie plate. If you don't care about presentation and taste is everything, then you will LOVE this crust!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 19, 2007
Recipe as is wouldn't be nearly sweet enough for a "sugar" cookie. I added about 1/2-3/4cup more sugar and it still tasted like a bread cookie. I found the dough really hard to work with and had to use a lot of flour each time I rolled them out. I just didn't find them to be good at all. Guess I'm the minority-won't use again

Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
Excellent and easy recipe. Don't be turned off by the list of ingredients. I actually just put it all in a pot and let cook for a while. Used a rotiessere chicken from the grocery and boiled the remainder for stock. Next time, I won't use the whole tomatoes, just diced tomatoes with jalepeno peppers. I also would half the amount of water. I added about 1-2 TBsp tomato paste-don't know if it made a real difference. Served with cheddar bay biscuits with monteray instead of cheddar cheese and taco seasoning mixed with butter on top.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2007
Very fitting name! Wonderful recipe. I think they are better eaten right awya-not quite as good left over. I used buttermilk and think I had to add a little more. About 1/4 cup more? At first I thought they were too soupy but they came out just right!

Asparagus Parmesan

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2006
I love the taste of these two together. Balsamic is also a great flavor to try with the two. Sometimes I steam the asparagus and then pop it in the stove with cheese on top just till melted. Can't go wrong if you love asparagus

Souvlaki

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2006
I love this recipe. I leave off the oregano. The taste is not overpowering, it's easy, and leaves meat tasty and tender. You can whip it up in no time and keep the sauce in the frig if you have some leftover. Excellent recipe. Definately a keeper

Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2006
This was really easy and I liked not having to use egg whites. I used other reviewers suggestions and added 2 Tbsp of milk-I think this was a little much -my icing was runny and ran into the dents in my cookies. Next time I will do maybe 1 TBsp and go from there. Overall it was easy and tasty.

Black Bottom Cupcakes I

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
These were ok. Nothing great that I can't live without. I think just a chocolate cupcake with frosting would be better. I LOVE cheesecake but didn't like the cream cheese with this. It was too much trouble for not enough taste

NOTHING special. Taste just like it sounds, an orange flavored cake mix. Which I guess some people like. I like more variety/homemade

Deep Dish Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2005
Very good brownies. Brownies are my favorite dessert so I have tried many. These seemed a little sweet. I might cut to sugar to 1 1/2 cups next time. No one else seemed to notice though.

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2005
hmmmmm....the best? I have to be honest and say I haven't made many homemade muffins. I guess I was looking for something (a base) that tasted like my favorite deli's cranberry muffin. I made some plain and then added apple to the others. I did 1/2 reg milk and 1/2 buttermilk. One of the regular ones tasted like the cornbread muffin at boston market, which is definately not a bad thing, a little sweet but not too much. Oh, I also cut down on sugar to 1/2 cup, as suggested, but will probably do 3/4 if i make again. I also added streusal to the apple ones and sprinkled honey butter from the site on each muffin. Overall they were tasty and easy.
