Twice-Cooked Coconut Shrimp

Reviewed: Apr. 19, 2005
This was good but once fried I could taste very little coconut. I even used the sweetened coconut and there were a lot of flakes on the shrimp. The dipping sauce made them better and added taste. I added about 1/3 cup of pineapple perserves to the dipping sauce and I think it made it better. The orange was overpowering before. I will probably make them again just because they are different and this is probably just as simple as the other recipes out there. The people eating them like them because they don't know how much trouble it took:)

Strawberry Torte

Reviewed: May 11, 2005
This was ok. I am a huge dessert fan and love to try new recipes. I found that the cream cheese/whipping cream mixture was lumpy and tasted like sour cream once mixed together. It was good but was too much like and angel food cake with whip cream and strawberries, which is easier to make. I think I will keep looking!

Cream Puff Cake

Reviewed: May 11, 2005
This was a good dessert but nothing incredible or different. It didn't really have a WOW factor. At first I was alarmed at the crust rising and "puffing" up, but when it cooled it was perfect!I agree with one reviewer who said you couldn't taste the cream cheese. I am not big on making things from a box. I may try homemade vanilla pudding and chocolate sauce if I make this again. The pudding was a little overwhelming.

Nutella® Cheesecake

Reviewed: May 23, 2005
Once again, I am disappointed with a dessert from this site. This was a gooey mess. It tasted just like the recipe sounds. Nothing special. It may be ok for a spread on fruit or bread, but it was awful in a pie crust. It wouldn't cut and you had to end up spooning it out and forcing it off the spoon. I know desserts are supposed to be sweet and I love them, but this was REALLY sweet and I cut down on sugar. I will keep looking

Artichoke & Spinach Dip Restaurant Style

Reviewed: May 23, 2005
I love this dip. I use as much cheese as I like, but I cut down to 1/2 a jar of alfredo sauce. I also add a little bit of salt even though the chips I serve it with are salty. It is so great-trust the reviews on this one!

Rich Chocolate Truffle Pie

Reviewed: May 25, 2005
if you like a semi-sweet chocolate chip then you will love this. I personally prefer my chocolate a little sweeter. I made the mistake of using plain whipping cream (not heavy) and thought it was going to be like soup, but once chilled it was very puddingy. I put it in a shortbread pre-made crust and topped it with whip cream to cut the chocolate a bit. I also added about 1-2 tablespoons more sugar. It was great! I think I may try it next time with milk chocolate chips. Thanks!

Tar Heel Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2005
A very good, rich brownie-like pie. I would suggest serving it with vanilla ice cream to cut down on the richness. Also, letting the pie cool for ~30 min just so it can set. Very good-Thanks!

Big Guy Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2005
I am cheating and just reviewing the crust. I made it to go with a coconut cream pie. It was great. A slight hint of powdered sugar. I suspect it would be even better with a fruit pie like this. I put it with a coconut cream pie with whipped topping, which was already really sweet and this made it even sweeter, almost too sweet. The only downside is the crust crumbled when I took it out of the pie plate. If you don't care about presentation and taste is everything, then you will LOVE this crust!

Cream Cheese Pound Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2005
i love this. I often have a little that falls (despite ing. @ room temp) so last time I added 1/2 tsp of bkg soda/or powder, I can't remember which. I love to add 1 1/2 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp lemon, 1/2 tsp coconut, and 1/8-1/4 almond extracts! For special occasions I will do dots of icing on the cake with those same flavorings. It is SO good. Try the flavorings if you like those tastes.

Best Ever Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2005
hmmmmm....the best? I have to be honest and say I haven't made many homemade muffins. I guess I was looking for something (a base) that tasted like my favorite deli's cranberry muffin. I made some plain and then added apple to the others. I did 1/2 reg milk and 1/2 buttermilk. One of the regular ones tasted like the cornbread muffin at boston market, which is definately not a bad thing, a little sweet but not too much. Oh, I also cut down on sugar to 1/2 cup, as suggested, but will probably do 3/4 if i make again. I also added streusal to the apple ones and sprinkled honey butter from the site on each muffin. Overall they were tasty and easy.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
am i missing something here? I made these in an 8 inch square pan and they were about 1 inch thick, and I KNOW i put the salt and powder in it. I have had much better homemade brownies and even the box I use is better with milk chocolate pieces added in. When I made the batter up I looked over the recipe several times to see if I had added everything-it was like 1 1/2cups of batter-nothing! I am giving it a 3 only because of the frosting which I really liked and will use again on my homemade recipe or box brownies. I don't see what the fuss is about with this recipe.

Restaurant-Style Coleslaw I

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
I was pretty disappointed. I had to drain this after I made it, despite adding extra cabbage, and it was still soupy. It was mayonaisy like there was no sugar and just overall bland. I let it sit overnight. I didn't think it tasted anything like any restaurant I've been to. If so, they need to find a different slaw recipe. I think the vinegar based slaw is much better-sorry

Peach Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2005
Despite the pie being runny ( i have never read reviews to let it sit in the oven) I have to give it 5 stars for taste. It is sweet and tart and just excellent alone or with ice cream. I will try the oven trick. WOnder if a little cornstartch would help it out?

French Silk Chocolate Pie II

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2005
I found this dessert to be too sweet. I know...Desserts are supposed to be sweet, but sugar is supposed to compliment the taste, not over power it. I also thought it was too light and airy. I like the more dense and I hate to say this, but store bought version of this dessert. For the time and ok taste, I will not be making again.

Deep Dish Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2005
Very good brownies. Brownies are my favorite dessert so I have tried many. These seemed a little sweet. I might cut to sugar to 1 1/2 cups next time. No one else seemed to notice though.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2006
These had a great taste, but they were flat. I was looking for a more puffy cookie that cracked like those shown in the picture. Maybe 350 for 8 minutes is the key. I think I followed the temp in the recipe.

Cranberry Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2006
I was really excited about making this recipe. First, the cake part was brown on the inside. The top got too brown after 60 min and was dry. And the taste was ok. I couln't even taste the cranberries as much as I wanted. I served it too my guinea pig parents, sister, and brother-in-law. When I said I was throwing the recipe away, no on protested.

Slow Cooker Cranberry Pork

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2006
Another Ok recipe. Nothing to write home about. Was basically a bar-b-que sauce. It tasted nothing like cranberries or french dressing. I used chicken and once cooked it was soupy. I had to get some of the sauce and reduce it in a pan and then pour over the chicken. Will not be making again.

NOTHING special. Taste just like it sounds, an orange flavored cake mix. Which I guess some people like. I like more variety/homemade

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2006
I agree with some other reviewers. The cookies, once refrigerated, where crispy on the ouside and puffed up and didn't get done on the inside. They didn't spread much and I agree they were hard once they cooled. The only reason I am giving these 4 stars is b/c my mom loved them and I did use 1/2 crisco and 1/2 butter. I think they are 3 stars. I will keep searching for that perfect cc cookie recipe.
