(The following was shamelessly stolen from an email I received, but I can relate!)     Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder. This is how it manifests itself: I decide to water my garden.   As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I loo MORE

...which may explain some of my crankiness of late, but even with an explanation, you all still deserve an apology.  And I am here to offer that apology, and I can only hope that you can graciously accept it. Yes, today is April 25, 2010, which makes it five years and one day since I sat on MORE

Uh, yeah, I’m almost speechless…almost! I would, indeed be speechless, but things like this mandate speaking out. It would simply be wrong to say nothing, so here we go.   Not to long ago, as many of you know, I was gifted, by a wonderful friend here, crazycatlady - CCL, aka Lorie, with an MORE

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal.” ~From a headstone in Ireland.   That’s what this entry is all about, my memories. Now these are not just any old memories; they are the memories that make me who I am, the memories that gave me my love for fam MORE

As many here know, I lost the love of my life in April of 2005.  My husband and I owned and ran our own business together, so even days at work were distorted, full of fog, and very, very, long and lonely.  I began to search, for what, I didn't know.  But in July of that year, I… MORE

About Me
I got my love of cooking, as well as my methods, from my Mamaw, a "lil of this and some of that" kind of cook, but always true to our Southern roots. I am 46 and was never fortunate enough to have kids, but I am blessed with wonderful family and at age 40 I was blessed to meet the love of my life. We were married a wonderful 13 months when he passed away. Since then, I became involved with an online grief support group. I met the best friends of my life and we ventured out to form our own group for widow support. This is a user driven set of groups that runs free and as sad as it can be when we must welcome a new member, it is my proudest achievement. We now have over 300 members and I have seen so much healing it makes my heart almost explode! If you have lost your love and would like support from those who "get it", or you feel you have wisdom to offer from your own experience, please feel free to check us out at: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/WidowIsland/
My favorite things to cook
Well let me just say, that when it counts I make it perfection, but on a daily basis, I like to remember one of my favorite newspaper cartoons about a grouchy old couple. The wife is standing, waving a spatula, and asks the husband "Which do you want for supper: speed, or accuracy?"
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving Dinner for 30 in our family means, unfortunately, many couldn't make the trip that year. We have it at my cousin's (we all bring our traditional dishes) and the pool table is covered and brimming with food, and the ping pong table is covered and set so we can all sit together even though one or two may be seated on a lawn chair. Gotta love family.
My cooking triumphs
MASTERING my Mamaw's Cornbread Dressing as well as my Tata's (also my grandmother) Boiled Custard (a thick, egg nog type treat)!
My cooking tragedies
The only kitchen tragedies that truly exist are the ones you ADMIT to; and I ain't admittin' NOTHIN'!
