About this Cook
I've known my husband of 24yr for 37yr. 2kids(girl/boy). Love to learn things/Collect people (friends). Volunteer w/Girl Scouts/Local High School/Colorado Division of Wildlife/Astronomical Society. Love playing board games and making pies. I have a very happy life!
My favorite things to cook
I am known as "meat woman". I love to make the main dish. Specialties include beef roasts, pork roasts, barbecued turkey and chicken fried steak (Prudhomme's recipe)
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hard to choose....Dad is a hunter and when he comes back he would always butcher an antelope first. Mom would fry it up in butter with toast dipped in the drippings before we would continue to process the rest of the game. Weeks later, the family would gather to make 150lbs of sausage from grind to season to stuff to smoke. Fall was always a fun food time in our house.
My cooking triumphs
I make pies! My favorite books are the Crisco Great American Pie pamplets. Best meal is chicken fried steak, garlic mashed potatoes with onion gravy, seasoned roasted corn on the cob and Jackpot Cherry Pie. (Not exactly diet food... )
My cooking tragedies
Early in my career, I used a potato masher as a pastry blender. (Not recommended) I also made a crock pot stew without first browning the meat..we ate out that night. The family expresses what they don't like by telling me "Mom, if you lost that recipe I would not be upset!"

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople
Wonderful flavor. Great presentation. Major oven mess. Be sure to have a very open lattice so the caramel can get into the apples. Watch the video! I've made two. First one was a major mess in the oven but was eaten so fast at the potluck that I didn't get any. So I made another the next day. Not as big a mess, but a mess just the same. I will perfect this one. It's worth it.

Angel Hair Pasta with Garlic Shrimp and Broccoli
This dish was so easy to make. I set up all the quantities in prep bowls prior to cooking. It all went together very quickly. My 16yr old son had seconds and ate all the leftovers. This recipe is definately a keeper. (The only set back was all the cookware I used in up is not a favorite of mine.)
