Streusel Apple Coffeecake

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2008
Very tasty. But batter was so think that it was difficult to work with -- particularly spreading the second half of the batter over the apples. Also, I prefer my coffeecake to be a bit less like cake and have more of a crumb to it.

Molten Chocolate Cakes

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2008
Terrific taste, but I had to cook it only 10 minutes in order to still have a molten center. Easier than some other recipes I've tried (and chocolatier).

Apple Cranberry Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2007
Very good. The proportion of apples and cranberries to batter really is very high. In the bowl, it looked more like fruit salad than anything else. I even left out the nuts, thinking that the batter couldn't handle any mroe solids. When I put it in the oven, I was worried that it was not going to turn out at all. I shouldn't have worried. It came out great. But I should have added the nuts -- without them, the flavor was a little one dimensional.

Cheddar Biscuit Cups

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
I did not have self-rising flour, so had to follow the tip about adding baking powder and salt to my flour. The resulting biscuits were so salty that I couldn't eat mine. I think this is the first time EVER that I have left a bread product unfinished.

Springtime Potato Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2007
Terrific! A little sweeter than my grandma's, but still absolutely great. If you don't like your potato salad sweet, then I'd say cut down the sugar to 1 Tb., otherwise follow the recipe just as it is.

Black Magic Cake

Reviewed: May 1, 2007
Not just for Halloween! This has become my favorite chocolate cake to bake. It's so easy and it comes out so moist and tasty! I bake it in a bundt pan -- it takes 55 - 65 minutes. Then I drizzle it with Satiny Chocolate Glaze from this site. People rave about how good it is.

Irish Soda Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 24, 2007
Very tasty, but I had a HUGE mess in the oven trying to fit this in a 9" cake pan. The second time I made it, I cut the recipe in HALF and it worked perfectly in the 9" pan. Took about 45 minutes to bake. Good even without the raisins and caraway. A bit too sweet when I had it with corned beef, but perfect for breakfast. Next time I make it to go with supper, I will cut the sugar.

Meatloaf Cordon Bleu

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2007
I lost a similar recipe and was pleased to find this. One key change: use white meat for the ground meat -- I use a mixture of turkey and pork. Also, it really makes the rolling go easier if you refrigerate it for an hour or more after patting it out. I serve it with a creamy honey mustard sauce. Terrific!

Cranberry Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2006
Very good, but even though I cut the sugar to 3/4, still too sweet for my taste -- next time I will try 1/2 the sugar.

Banana Nut Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2006
I had a craving for brownies and a couple of brown bananas sitting around, so this recipe seemed like it was meant to happen. It turned out pretty good, but . . . . You CAN taste the banana -- it's not a bad taste, but you can taste it. And it turns out as more of a cake-like brownie, whereas I like a fudge-like brownie.

Garlic Lover's Pizza Crust for the Bread Machine

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2006
Wettest, stickiest dough I have ever made in my bread machine. Had to knead in another cup of flour. Ended up with a dough that tore instead of stretched. Couldn't really taste the garlic flavor.

Chewy Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2006
Quite good, but not perfect. The only change that I made to the recipe was to grind the oatmeal in a blender before adding it. Another change that I should have made was to decrease the salt. Even after 16 minutes in the oven, my cookies never browned. So they just don't look very nice. But they taste very good (other than slightly too much salt).

Mama Bear's Porridge

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2006
I like oatmeal and I like custard, but I didn't particularly like this. I'd describe it more as pasty oatmeal than custardy oatmeal. But then I like my oatmeal very thick and this wasn't.

Cold Oven Popovers

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
I've struggled to make just right popovers for years. I had finally given up, until I found this recipe. Turned out beautifully! I like to make the batter in the blender, making it very easy to pour into the muffin cups (but be careful not to overmix). And it's easily scalable to 4 or 8 popovers.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2006
Best cornbread I've ever made! Very moist, yet held together without crumbling all over the place. Took others' advice and reduced sugar to 1/2 c.

This was okay, not spectacular. I followed the recipe with the exception of substituting chicken broth for water.

Make Ahead Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2006
So many breakfast casseroles call for cream or half-and-half, which I never have on hand. But I ALWAYS have a can of cream of mushroom soup in the cupboard. For that reason, this recipe works really well for my family. I tend to use stuffing mix instead of croutons. Tastes great!

Molten Chocolate Cakes With Sugar-Coated Raspberries

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2006
Very good, but not as richly chocolately as I would like. I will try with bittersweet chocolate next time. I think they take a minute or two longer if you cook them in ramekins.

Cinnamon Honey Butter

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2005
I agree with others who said double the amount of butter (or decrease by half the amount of each sweetener). With that change, the recipe was fabulous with the Cold Oven Popovers from this site for breakfast and a baked sweet potato with dinner.
