About this Cook
I'm working my way through school and my husband is working his way to a career in photography. We're on a tight budget, so I love creative recipes that make the dollar stretch!
My favorite things to cook
I love making desserts and decorating cakes and pastries.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, my mom and I make any and every dessert that we have even the slightest craving for.
My cooking triumphs
My first attempt at apple pie. Everyone raved that it was by far the best they've ever had.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at cherry pie. I used frozen cherries and forgot to add the sugar. People politely choked it down...with lots and lots of ice cream on top.

Frosty Pumpkin Pie
I don't care for regular pumpkin pie, and thought maybe I'd like this better, but no such luck. However, my husband says it is worth 5 stars and guests seemed to like it as well. The only change I made was that I used a graham cracker crust.

Health Nut Blueberry Muffins
I used oat bran flour..not sure if that is the same as oat bran or not. Also, I had no walnuts, so I left them out. Otherwise, you would never guess this is a healthier alternative to regular muffins. They come out nice and moist.

Rolled Fondant
This recipe is amazing! I had tried one other fondant before, and thought it was good, but it was nothing compared to this one. I will be using this recipe from here on. I subbed light corn syrup and used the 3T water as another reviewer suggested, and it worked perfectly. This recipe will require a lot of kneading and it gets very stiff, so be prepared to either put a lot of time and muscle into it, or set up your bread machine or kitchenaid. To keep it from sticking to the table, I sprinkled powdered sugar on the table, and onto the rolling pin. Once draped over the cake, I lightly "buffed" it with the palm of my hand to take away the sugar, and then I ran a damp paper towel all over the surface to remove the rest of the sugar residue.
