South African Malvapoeding (Marshmallow Pudding)

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Yumeee!!! This is the perfect pudding for a cold or rainy day (actually, any day will do :-). There are many recipes for this pudding, but being an Afrikaner myself, I can guarantee that this is a winner. I've made it for years and have always used orange juice. The orange juice gives it that perfect taste. This is a very rich pudding (dessert) and should be served in small portions. Go on, try it!! I'm sure you'll love it too!! Thanks for posting this recipe.

Chocolate Cornstarch Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Mmmmmm.....just lovely!! My "Ouma" (Granny in Afrikaans) taught me to make this pudding. The only thing I do differently is to add 1 or 2 Tblspns of brandy and, of course, the butter. I have also made the pudding with 1 cup less milk and, once cold, folded in 1 cup of whipped cream. No matter how you prefer it though, you can't go wrong with this pudding as my daughter has also been making it since she was 10yrs old.

Fried Cornmeal Mush

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2009
This really is a great recipe. In South Africa we call this fried mealie meal. For a savoury twist I often add a TBlsp chopped corriander leaves or half a cup of fried bacon bits and/or chopped fried mushrooms. Sweet or savoury, this remains a firm favourite in our household!!

Classic Tiramisu

Reviewed: Sep. 4, 2008
I have been making this recipe for some years now and no matter where I go, I'm asked for the recipe. I've learnt a few tricks though: After adding the mascarpone, I let it cool down completely and then add my cream un-whipped. I then proceed to whipping the whole lot with a regular hand-held whisk, untill it's nice and thick. I use a mixture of strong, black coffee, brandy and Khalua and almost drench my biscuits. I've made this for an Italian granny who has sworn by her own recipe for decades - she now makes this one! My daughter started making this recipe three years ago (she's 18 now) and has NEVER had a flop. You just can't go wrong with this one.
