About this Cook
I am a 38 yr old happily married mom of 5 who never learned how to cook, so I am learning via trial by fire:) Luckily for me, my hubby is a good cook and very patient:)
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook big meals that taste good:) Mostly meat and potatoes, or something with rice or noodles, but still involving meat and potatoes:) I also like to make desserts of any kind.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We're still working on them! These still involve a bigger list of things to learn how to do, rather than things I have successfully accomplished, but we're working on it! I can make a mean turkey or ham holiday meal, though! And I try to include the kids in the kitchen festivities as much as possible:) Their involvement is the most important tradition of all to me!
My cooking triumphs
Many of my triumphs were inspired by allrecipes! From these pages I have made many excellent meals and treats, from home made rolls and breads to meats of all kinds, and cookies or whatnot for desserts. Truly, though I may feel I am still learning, my family thinks I'm actually a good cook! who'd a knew??!!
My cooking tragedies
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I couldn't cook diddly squat, burning hockey puck hamburgers and ruining my husband's ability to enjoy anything with rosemary in it:P Really, if it wasn't french toast or spaghetti, it was anybody's guess as to how edible it would be:P But thanks to the wonderful recipes and thoughtful reviews found here, I can't remember the last meal time disaster. hurray!!!

Dumplings
Fantastic! We like ours a little more fluffy than gooey inside, so after the 15 mins with the lid on, we cooked it another 10 minutes with it off... absolute perfection! tytyty Carol! this is now our default dumpling recipe:)

Baked Homemade Macaroni and Cheese
This didn't excite me, but a few of my kids say they can live on it. I made a triple batch for a large dinner, and had a good 3/4 left, because it was very basic in flavor, and there was a lot of other dishes... I did the roux, but only used sharp cheddar, not much salt, and it was meh. This was much better the next day, though, and the entire pan was polished off last night. I will make this again, but with a triple variety of cheeses, as some others mentioned.

Rich and Creamy Beef Stroganoff
Simply awesome! Used a 5lb chuck roast, no wine, a couple of pinches of cayenne instead of red pepper flakes, and no cream cheese, just a little more sour cream. I only put 1t mustard for the double batch,as we have some real haters, and added about 3/4T soy sauce for the zip. As this week it's the low-dough show, used minced onion n garlic from the shaker and fridge, respectively, and mushrooms from the can. Still awesome! I quick sauteed the onion n garlic in a little butter and put them in a bowl, then browned the beef strips in batches, pouring any broth cooked out into the bowl to fluff up the dried minced onion. Made the roux as directed, then dumped everything but the mushrooms in for the hour simmer. At the end of the hour, I added the 'shrooms, turned it down really low, and let it percolate whilst making elbow noodles and rice for our mini army:) Really, couldn't get any easier! Our picky 10 yr old was dancing around the living room, singing my cooking praises... muahahaha! thanks so much, sanfrancook!
