Sugar Cookie Icing

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
Excellent constancy! I’ve used it a couple of times and found, as many mentioned, I needed a bit more milk, but got a nicer finish if I didn’t thin too much. Additionally, when I added too much syrup, it cracked a little when dry. When I used both milk and syrup to thin the end result was flawless!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
Good bread! Different than I expected, but still tasty. My kids love it! Made it as directed but didn't find it to be all that sweet as others have (love sweets though). I added a wash before baking, using 2 egg yolks thinned with milk and a little honey. Just brush it on while you're waiting for the oven to heat. Makes the top brown nicely.

Family favorite! I use a higher temp for a shorter time, and brush with oil before cooking.

Bran Flax Muffins

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2008
I LOVE these muffins! I've been trying to lighten up several recipes, with mixed results. These are by far the best! Edits: -sub whole wheat pastry flour for white -dropped to 1 Tbsp oil -upped to 1 cup milk -1 egg and 2 egg whites -dropped to 1/3 cup walnuts (still adds bits of flavor) Mine yeilded 17 at 180 calories and 5g of fat! (less the nuts - 165/3)

Good solid cookie recipe. I had to add more flour to make rolling/cutting easier, but the taste and look is perfect!

Simple Scones

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2008
Excellent recipe! I tried hard to mess it up (started grating butter on the small holes. forgot to cut into pieces, so I had to over work the dough a bit) and they still came out delightful! Family loves them. My only issue is the high fat content, but it's an extra special treat! Tip - Use raw (natural) sugar for the topping. Has a larger grain.

Playgroup Granola Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2008
Very good and easy to edit according to what you have on hand. My daughter can't get enough of them! Like others suggested, I didn't spread out the batter completely. Just to the desired thickness. Holds it's shape regardless. Great one to try!

Shaped Vanilla Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2008
THE BEST sugar cookie recipe! Definitely a winner! I tried several.. all pretty good, but just not the texture I was looking for. This is a soft, cake-like cookie with great flavor. I didn't change any ingredients. Made the dough as directed, separated into 3 disks, stored in the fridge for a few days until I had time to cut them out. The dough is easy to work with and the cookies cut/bake beautifully. This will be my go-to recipe from now on! TIP: if you're really into making cut-out cookies or pie crusts, buy a good rolling pin w/cover and a pastry cloth. Cuts down on the amount of flour needed. Worth the cost and effort.

Sugared Asparagus

Great flavor! It's pretty strong, so I recommend serving it with chicken, beef or pork. I served it with fish, which seemed overpowering. Good recipe though!

A Jerky Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2008
Very good sauce! Excellent flavor! Doubled everything, except chicken and pepper (used one jalapeno), which wasn't spicy in the least, but delicious. Plan to try again with habanero and thigh meat. Definitely a keeper!
