About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Potato soup and other soups as I find them. I like to prepare whole birds in a variety of ways, and I enjoy baking cakes and breads when I have enough people around to eat them.
My cooking triumphs
Developing a potato soup that contains pork, dairy, and chicken. Vegetarian cooking is okay, but give me the meat!
My cooking tragedies
One time, I burned Rice Krispy Treats.

Supreme Apple Butter
This was incredible. Followed the recipe exactly and periodically smashed the mixture with a potato masher. Delicious!

Steak and Ale Pie with Mushrooms
This was delicious and easier to make than I had expected. I used a ready-made pie crust and a deep dish 9" pan. I took the advice of other reviewers and left the saucepan covered during all of the simmering steps to preserve the fluids, and I used a bunch of cornstarch (which works better for me with gravies) instead of the flour when making the rue. Overall a big Superbowl Sunday hit!

Sesame-Crusted Tuna with Summer Salsa
So... I used frozen tuna steaks, my wasabi powder is old and mild, and I substituted orange/peach/mango juice for the lime. Still, this recipe was solidly unremarkable. The tuna steaks needed salt, pepper, or *something* more than sesame to flavor the bites without salsa. I ended up sprinkling my serving with cayenne to make it more interesting.
