Gypsy Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2006
This soup was both delicious and fragrant. We more than doubled the amount of broth the recipe called. We also used soy sauce instead of tamari.

Avocado Dessert

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2007
Delicious. I love sweet avocado desserts--and so easy to make. I changed the recipe by using 1/8 of a cup of splenda granular and 1/4 a teaspoon of vanilla. I also added a pinch of salt. This is great because it is lighter than the condensed milk avocado dessert I usually make.

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: May 9, 2007
This soup was delicious. I used a good quality salsa, added a tomato, half a sweet onion, and some lime juice. It was fantastic. This is a recipe I will use again and again.

Asparagus Soup in Seconds

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2007
I made this soup using frozen organic asparagus spears and two chicken bouillon cubes instead of the canned soup. Omitted the salt, but it still ended up being too salty from the bullion. I liked the recipe, but it didn't wow me. I would give it a 3 for taste and a 5 for convenience.

Raspberries with Sour Cream Custard

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2007
Mine came out tasting too sweet and artificial. It's my own fault because I replaced the sugar with Splenda. Never again!

Paneer (Home Made)

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2007
I have no idea what I am doing wrong, but I tried this recipe twice and I didn't get any cheese. It wouldn't curdle at all. I used whole milk.

Tabbouleh III

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
This was delicious and very easy to make. I will make again. However, I thought it was a bit too salty. I also decreased the olive oil and added more lemon juice.

Whipped Garlic

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2007
I cut the recipe by a third and still ended up with plenty. I couldn't imagine using up a whole 3 cups worth! The key is to only use a little bit at a time. My sister says it tastes just like the one we get at our local Lebanese restaurant.

Green Tea Layer Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2007
This was, in the words of my family, not as bad as it could have been. I love green tea (with green tea ice cream is my favorite flavor), so I had hopes. It wasn't bad, but it didn't live up to my expectations.

Urban Legend Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2007
I halved the recipe, and ended up with plenty of cookies. I ommitted the grated chocolate because I'm lazy, and substituted dark chocolate chips in order to cut down on sweetness. Would make again.

Tuna Curry in a Hurry

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2007
This is one of my go-to recipes. It is fast, cheap, and delicious. I use red instead of green pepper. I use just enough olive oil so that the onions and peppers and garlic don't stick. Finally, I sub Greek-style yogurt for the sour cream, and only put in half as much. Raisins are delicious in this, too!. I also up the amount of curry and add some cayenne to spice it up a bit.

Bean and Tomato Stew with Sage

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
I actually thought this was delicious. I cut back on the olive oil and upped the garlic. I also used fresh sage (which I think made a big difference). I subbed butter beans, as well. This recipe hit my requirements for being cheap and easy, as well as reasonably healthy. I will def. make again!

Brazilian Passion Fruit Mousse (Maracuja)

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
Wow, easy and delicious. I also used frozen passionfruit juice and followed the reviewers advice to refrigerate overnight. Mine set without a problem. Perfect make ahead dessert for a tropical themed dinner party. Beware, though--it's rich! Edited to add that it freezes surprisingly well, too!

Chocolate Earl Grey Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2007
These were decent. I liked them, but my parents did not. I thought they were a bit on the dry side and a little too sweet. I did like the earl grey flavor, though! I don't know if I would make them again.

Fried Rice II

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
I made this at the last minute because I wanted something with rice and tofu and didn't know what else to do. I added carrots, a whole onion, and a little over a cup of the bean sprouts. I also used two eggs and some tofu in order to try and up the protein content. I didn't have time to refrigerate my brown rice, so it came out with a weird texture. But it was tasty, and that was the most important thing. Oh, I also added some rice wine vinegar to it to give it some more of a kick. Also, cheap!

Lentil Pate

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
This is actually surprisingly delicious. I had no problem cooking up my lentils (although they didn't get very tender, it's true. But I like them better that way) with the 2 cups of broth. The truffle oil is wonderful. This is my first time making lentils and I'm surprised at how much I like it. I would absolutely make this recipe again.

Salmon Cakes III

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2008
Good basic recipe, but lacked flavor. I used 1/2 cup bread crumbs, two eggs, and added some minced garlic. Also added juice of half of one lemon, chili powder, some jalapeno, and honey. Broiled in the oven instead of frying. Good way to use canned salmon.

Delicious, healthy, fast and easy. What more could you ask for? I added more curry and some ginger to the mix.

Sweet Russian Cabbage Soup

Very easy and delicious! Makes a ton--cut down on the water but otherwise followed the recipe exactly. My father still asks for it.
