About this Cook
I'm the eldest son of six brothers and sisteres. I have enjoyed cooking since I was thirteen. I often cooked for my brothers and sisters, especially breakfast on Saturday mornings. My siblings served as my guinea pigs for new recipes. Everything cooking I learned from my dad. I also learned the importance of owning a good knife set. My choice has been Henckels.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite dishes would be middle-eastern cooking. I believe this is some of the healthiest cooking out there. There are healthy choices from breakfasts to desserts, and everything in between. If you're a meat or veggie lover it's all covered here too. Lots of whole grains, flavorful meats, veggies and make for a diverse range for healthy eating.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite would have to be Sunday dinners with family. This was the only time during the week where we'd all come together and have an eventful dinner. A close second would be Thanksgiving dinner. We'd all be in the kitchen beginning in the morning lending a hand leading up to the big meal.
My cooking triumphs
For Easter 2006, my wife and I hosted dinner for about thirty family members. This was our first dinner in our new home. So my wife and I spent the night before, preping food. This included appetizers, soup and salad, a pork roast, a leg of lamb and homemade dessert. Every meal came out great and was well worth the effort. At the end of the day we had several family memebers asking for receipes. Preparation is key to successful entertaining.
My cooking tragedies
It would have to be the time I tried cooking beef shish-kabobs as my main dish when I was entertaining some friends at home. I charred the meat, it turned out very hard and very chewy. You had to really work for every bite. At the time, I was still learning the different cuts of beef and the best cut of beef for the dish. Not to mention the importance of marinating. Needless to say, the cut of beef I chose was not appropriate for shish-kabobs. We ended up ordering pizza and hot wings, and had a few too many laughs at my expense.
