My favorite things to cook
I love baking breads, especially cinnamon rolls based on my mom's recipe. I still believe one of my boyfriends from my teen years stayed around as long as he did to eat Mom's cinnamon rolls when he'd bring me home after our Saturday night dates! I also like to make brand-new recipes based on things I have around the house, including leftovers. My husband has become a crazy-good outdoor grillmaster, so I support his artistry by collaborating with him on marinades and rubs. You should taste the burgundy mushrooms he serves on grilled steak!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was the consumate meat-and-potatoes cook for our farm family. I've taken her wonderful basic work and added my herbs, spices and cooking styles to create my own family traditions. I must be a throwback to a previous generation, as Mom says the fragrances in my cupboards remind her of being at her grandmother's house. My husband and I both come from a German/Ukranian background, and I love to make dishes that celebrate that tradition. I make an ethnic dish called verenikka, and I'll post it when I'm confident I have a reliable "recipe." I'm a "dump and pour" cook, seldom measuring anything!
My cooking triumphs
Raising twin daughters who are both great cooks in their own right.
My cooking tragedies
I couldn't make a decent cream gravy to save my life when I was a young bride!
