Garbage Quiche

Reviewed: May 29, 2010
Good base recipe - I really didn't use any of the ingredients listed except for the egg base and spices. For the filling I used some spicy breakfast sausage, frozen broccoli, green onions, garlic, grape tomatoes and a marble cheese mix.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: May 25, 2010
I made this recipe without any changes and found it was the perfect amount for 6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs. I baked the chicken at 425 for 30 minutes, flipping once halfway through - tender and delicious!

Spicy Black Bean Empanadas

Reviewed: May 25, 2010
I followed this recipe closely but I instead filled 12 Goya Premade Empanada Disks (baked 400 for 15-20mins) - I only had a tablespoon of filling leftover so it was perfect. I also used about a cup of frozen mixed bell peppers instead of fresh. My husband, who just yesterday said he has only ever heard of dessert empanadas and was unsure of savory ones, ate 5! Will definitely make this again.

Mouth-Watering Stuffed Mushrooms

Reviewed: May 10, 2010
I'm on a strict low-carb diet due to my diabetes acting up during this pregnancy, so anything so filling with so few carbs is awesome. My only complaint was the strong garlic flavor, but I'll just cut back next time.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2010
4 stars for ease of preparation and texture, but I'm not sure how tasty this would have been as-is since I made some flavor additions and was still left slightly unimpressed. I would have liked a little more egg, or perhaps less spinach. If I try this again, I'll add another egg and mix up the veggies a bit.

Herb Rubbed Sirloin Tip Roast

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2010
I used this rub on a top round roast instead of the sirloin tip roast and it was devoured! I was worried the meat would be tough but I followed the directions given here, sliced it thin and yum!

Best Steak Marinade in Existence

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2010
YUM - I rarely use marinades but I bought a tough cut of meat and used this marinade for nearly 24 hours. I was unsure about the amount of basil that went in, and when the meat came out, I thought it smelled a little strange but when I took my first bite, I fell in love, haha. I didn't have any garlic powder, so I put in 2 tsp of minced garlic and I omitted the dried garlic. I'll also be putting more hot sauce in next time, maybe a full teaspoon. Definitely a keeper!

Fluffy Pancakes

Reviewed: Apr. 10, 2010
Fantastic recipe - nice to not have to worry about buttermilk. The only thing I recommend is swirling the batter in the middle once you pour it into the pan so it levels out and bakes more evenly. Great taste and simple ingredients, my 4-year-old wolfed it down!

Marinated Baked Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2010
The actual sauce was delicious, though I did triple the recipe for just 5 thick chops (double probably would have been enough, though cutting it close). My problem was with the temperature and cooking time given. My chops were about 1.5 inches thick and ended up taking a full hour to reach 140degrees at the recommended 350. While this is supposed to be medium-rare, they took so long to cook, they ended up dry and disappointing. Will try thinner chops next time.

Mom's Best Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2010
This was really lacking in flavor for me, though it may have been due to the thickness of the chop I used (1inch). In addition, I found using 3 whole tubes of saltines was a big waste - I even went ahead and did a double coating and there was still at least a tube of cracker crumbs being thrown away. The only pro was the crunchy coating. Will try another recipe next time.

5 stars for ease and taste! I only had jasmine rice but it still came out delicious. It's a keeper!

My Best Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2010
Pros: -Easy to put together -The taste was fabulous (after the extra additions) -My hubby asked for two bowls and there was still lots for tomorrow! Cons/Changes: -I wasn't sure how long to let the half and half/rue mixture simmer for. I felt like I was stirring it for at least 15 minutes before I noticed any sort of thickening -I added a lot more vinegar and salt than suggested in the recipe -Without the additional "bacon step" I think this would have been pretty bland Overall, I enjoyed the taste and ease of preparation so will likely make it again!

Great Easy Waffles

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2009
Great recipe - worth the extra step of frothing the egg whites! These came out light and airy on the inside, crispy on the outside. My only complaint was my fault - they didn't have a lot of flavor but I didn't have any lemon zest so left it out.. I bet that would have made them divine!

Bananas Foster Belgian Waffles

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2009
Good, easy waffle recipe. The only problem I had with them is they got fairly soggy as soon as I took them out. I didn't make the "bananas foster" part but they were pretty good with just butter and syrup. May try a different recipe before coming back to this one.

French Toast II

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly and turned up with nice smelling, soggy bread. The outside was able to brown nicely but from the first to the last piece, every single one was mushy in the middle and no one would eat it. I won't make this again.

Sarah's Applesauce

Five stars for being a quick and tasty alternative to store-bought applesauce. Just the right amount of sweetness and tartness. My son really liked it!

Microwave Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Aug. 27, 2009
I made a half batch. I cooked the syrup for 1 minute, stirred, then three 30 second rounds, stirring between each round. I then added the vanilla extract and baking soda, heated it another 30 seconds and then added that to the popcorn. I only heated it an additional minute in the bag and it came out so light and crispy! My son (who never stops moving) actually sat down next to the bowl, stuffing his mouth. When I asked him if it was good, all he could do was mumbled "Mmmm-hmm!" through a mouthful. Great alternative to butter and salt!

Sweetened Popcorn

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2009
It was hard to get an even coating over the popcorn, even in my biggest pot. I ended up with about 2/3 of the popcorn with coating and the other 1/3 plain. The flavor was super sweet and once it cooled, had an unpleasant texture in the mouth. My 3 year old and I only had few pieces before looking for a different snack.

Jalapeno Poppers I

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
I only gave these 4 stars a couple years ago, but I finally made them again and I don't know what I was thinking - 5 stars! Like last time, I didn't have cornflakes so I used a breadcrumb/ground oyster cracker combo. I also added 1T bacon bits to the cream cheese, though I couldn't really taste them. Crispy, creamy and delicious, couldn't ask for more!
