Amish Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2012
I hate to be one of those people who changes everything, but.... based on the other reviews, I left the sugar out of the meatloaf mix. I also didn't realize the recipe called for Ritz, so I subbed toasted plain bread crumbs. I also added half of a chopped green bell pepper and a medium onion and a package of dry onion soup mix. And I left out the bacon. So, it was in the spirit of the Amish meatloaf, if not exactly to the letter. It was very good and I would make it again.

Molasses Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2011
These were great! Nice and chewy, and the taste is really pleasantly spicy. Followed the recipe exactly, except I used butter flavored shortening. except I only chilled the first batch for 1.5 hours.

Black Bean Brownies

Reviewed: May 18, 2011
These are great. Rating them as a healthy alternative to traditional brownies, not as a competitor, because that's like comparing apples to oranges (or maybe pears?). I also took the advice of some reviewers and added 1/4 t. of baking powder and I didn't have any chocolate chips so I left them out.

Scrambled Egg Muffins

Reviewed: May 1, 2011
These were really good. I would make them again. Definitely don't forget to grease your pan like the OP says. Let's just say that "non-stick" is an expression to be taken with a grain of salt.

Margaritas

Really good! I added water because I made mine on the rocks. Really good and way better than with the bottled mix.

Basic Curry Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2011
This was excellent! Tasted just like my Indian friend's home cooking. A little too hot for me, and I like spicy food. Next time I will reduce the cayenne pepper.

Quinoa and Black Beans

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
This is a great recipe! I had everything on hand, except veggie broth, and it was really easy to make and tastes fantastic. I have been eating it all week for lunch and get lots of questions and comments from coworkers. I did add three chopped tomatoes once it was done cooking, but this wasn't *needed*, just wanted to use them up. I will make this again. Thank you for the recipe, OP.

Banana Oat Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2010
These are delicious! I made them today for the first time to have on hand for breakfast during the work week. I am used to larger muffins from Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts etc, so I laughed a little at the size, but really, that's the size I should be eating! The texture is nice and chewy and they are not too sweet, but they are sweet enough. My house smells heavenly even now, hours after the are done baking. I will definitely make these again.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2009
This was pretty good. Not great, because I think it needs to be a little sweeter. Still, my friends liked it pretty well. I think it would be better with a slightly sweet cream cheese frosting.

Beth's Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
Wow, these are fantastic! I made some changes, because my coworkers don't like raisins and I only had 1 1/2 sticks of butter and no shortening. Oh, and no cloves, because I didn't have any. They were nice and chewy and oat-y and nicely spiced from the cinnamon. I made them a little bigger than the directions and baked for 15 min. Best cookie I have had in at least a year.

Classic Waffles

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2009
This recipe was great. I made it at a friend's house, so I ended up using margarine instead of butter and imitation vanilla instead of regular. The waffles were still great. I scaled the recipe to 3 servings and it kind of made the quantities weird - like 1 1/4 eggs (?) so I used one whole egg and most of an egg white. I would definitely make these again. I froze the leftovers and they reaheated well in the toaster. Good job!

Russian Tea Cakes I

I loved these and so did my family and friends. I just moved and couln't find my vanilla, so I substituted Amaretto liqueur and they were fantastic. Not a crumb left over. Oh, and the dough is tasty raw, fyi.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2009
I made these at a friend's house and had to use light stick margarine because they didn't have shortening or butter. I accidentally misread the oven temp in the directions. I am a decent cook but bad with pastry. Even with all of those handicaps, these came out fantastic. Try them! They are great.

Shish Tawook Marinated Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2008
I thought this recipe was good. I liked the flavor, but I thought it needed salt. I did not marinate it for long enough, only about 20 minutes, since I did not plan far enough in advance. It was a little tough, but I blame that on the short marinade and not the recipe. Thanks for the recipe. Shish tawook is one of my favorite dishes and I have never even thought to make it at home. Next time I will cook it on skewers with mushrooms, onions and green peppers. I am Arabic and it made me giggle to make Arabic food with ketchup and yellow mustard. I served it with Rice A Roni and spinach sauteed with onion and garlic.

Baked Omelet Squares

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
I think this is a great recipe. I did make it without the olives though, the first time, because I did not have any. As it is written, I found it a little salty. I make this about once a week and always get rave reviews. It is good with jalpenos or green chilis, with or without mushrooms, and with sausage instead of ham. A great technique as well as a recipe. Thank you original poster.

Fasoliyyeh Bi Z-Zayt (Syrian Green Beans with Olive Oil)

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2008
I love this dish! I grew up eating this and a similar dish that also has tomatoes. I highly recommend this recipe. It is so good, it is hard to believe it is a veggie. Great with Kefta (or kufta; there is a good recipe on this site) and rice-a-roni! Maybe add some sliced tomatoes on the side.
