Steakhouse Wheat Bread for the Bread Machine

Reviewed: Mar. 20, 2009
I thought this recipe was really yummy and tasted a lot like the bread you get an Outback. I used 3/4 cup warm coffee instead of water and instant coffee. Also, I add 1/3 cup of honey and 1.5 T of sugar. I wanted it a little sweeter. It made a 1/2 loaf in my bread machine and it was very moist and tasty. My husband liked it with honey butter.

Burgundy Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2009
This is a very good recipe. I used 1/2 wine, 1/2 beef broth, like other suggested and I used fresh garlic instead of powdered. I also cut up mushrooms and put them on top the loins while they were cooking. After they finished cooking, I poured everything into a saucepan, added 2 packets of gravy mix and brought it to a boil. It simmered for a couple minutes to thicken, and then I served it up with the pork, buttered noodles and spinach. Very yummy!

Creamy Chicken and Rice Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
As the comments said, it's REALLY thick and very milky, so it may have been better to cut the roux in half and use more chicken broth instead of milk. It also has no flavor. I added a couple cloves of garlic, but just didn't seem to have enough taste. So I added some thyme and that seemed to work. This recipe makes enough for a small army, so I would suggest making half when you are first trying it.

Honey Brie Spread

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
I followed a reviewer's suggested and put the honey on top of the cheese, inside the dough, before I baked it. I brushed the dough with milk to make it shiny, then baked 15 minutes, put the pecans on top and added a little bit more of honey on the outside. It was really yummy and my book club devoured it!! A keeper.

This is a good recipe, especially for last minute, because you usually have most of these ingredients on hand.

High Temperature Eye-of-Round Roast

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2008
This was really, really good. One of the best recipes I've found in a long time. I put S&P and some dried onions on the meat and had it sit for a couple hours in the fridge. The meat was only about 1.5 lbs. so I did the high temp for about 20 minutes and then it sat in the oven for about 1 hr 45 min. Then it rested for about 20 minutes. It was rare, but very tender. My 3 year old gobbled it up. Will definitely make again!

Butter Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
I've tried making Indian and Asian food before and failed miserably. This was finally a winner!! I added chicken instead of potatoes, but otherwise followed the recipe. I added about 1 1/2 pds of raw chicken breast, cup up, in after I cooked the onion. I browned the chicken and then continued to add the other spices as the recipe instructed. I then let it all cook on the stove at a simmer for about 2 hours. I served it with spinach and rice. Yum! Next time I may try it with coconut milk instead of cream.

Dark Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2007
This is yummy. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could. I'm not sure it's the ultimate chocolate cake, but pretty close. The coffee in the batter makes it very dark.

Beef Stroganoff III

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2007
I read some reviews and marinated the beef in red wine for several hours before cooking. Next time I will do the same, but blot the beef dry before frying because too much wine go in the saute pan. I used half of a large yellow onion, instead of green. Next time I will also add some garlic. I also added a T or so of worcheter sauce. Overall, it was pretty good.

Turkey Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2007
We really liked this recipe. I was using leftover turkey which was REALLY dry, so I mixed it with about 1 cup of chicken broth and some sauteed shallots. I then put a layer of corn on top of the turkey mixed, followed by cheese and cream of chicken soup. I then used a layer of mashed potatoes, sprinkled with more cheese and a little butter and parm to make it crusty on top. Yum.

Butternut Squash Supreme

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2007
Yum - very good. I had a fresh butternut squash but I think I may use the frozen kind next time to save myself a step. It did taste really yummy with the fresh squash though (which I cooked in the microwave for about 8 minutes). I also sauteed the onions first, as people suggested. This is a keeper!

The Best Banana Bread

I love this recipe! I also used half white sugar and half brown. I added some cinnamon, but I think it takes fine without too. Our family favorite addition is chocolate chips. Yum!!

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

These were really yummy and easy to make. I used butter as my shortening but I think I will try crisco next time. The chocolate got a little soft after sitting out for a while.

Slow Cooker Pork Chops II

Yum! This is a great slow-cooker recipe that doesn't use a cream base. We really enjoyed the chops and I know I will continue to make this for years to come.

Graham Cracker Pudding Pie

I used instant pudding and did one layer chocolate, one vanilla. I also put crushed graham crackers on top. This was soo easy and would be good to make in a pinch. I will definitely make this again.

No Time to Cook Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2007
I thought this was a great recipe for chicken breasts in the crock pot. I haven't had much luck cooking chic breasts in the crock pot before. I made a couple modifications.... I added 3 cloves of minced garlic, some ground pepper and used cream of mushroom instead of celery. I served it with brown rice and peas. I consider it yummy comfort food. My husband said it 'needed something' so he put grated cheddar cheese on it.

Penne and Vodka Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2007
I made a couple alterations, but this recipe is great!! I love Italian food and order this frequently when I am in good Italian restaurants and this recipe is a pretty good version. I made about 1 1/2 times the recipe for the same amount of pasta. I also added about 1/2 pound of cooked shrimp to the sauce right at the end. I sauted 3 cloves of minced garlic withe the pancetta (right at the end of the pancetta browning). Also, I added about 1/2 cup of parm to the sauce at the end, in addition to the parm I served on top of it. Yum!!!

Poppy Seed Chicken II

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2006
This is a keeper. If I am making the chicken for this recipe, I usually season it with a chicken seasoning, but it's not necessary. I don't use the poppy seeds b/c my husband is allergic, but it is still really yummy and easy!! Good leftovers too.

Easy Chocolate Chip Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2006
Although this got really good reviews, it didn't really work for us. It seemed too oily or moist. I ended up cooking it for about 80 minutes and it was still like that. I checked and I don't think I did anything wrong so I'm not really sure what my wasn't good. :-(

Famous Pork Chops

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2006
This is a good basic recipe. I used crushed crostini because I didn't have Ritz crackers and it turned out okay. I will try it with the Ritz crackers next time I bet it will be even better!! The cooking time was just right.
