I LOVE Allrecipes.com!

I joined Allrecipes.com in June 2005 and it has become my favorite recipe source for so many reasons.  Here are just a few....

In 2006 an Allrecipe Recipe Contest caught my interest so I entered my original recipe for Caramel Macchiato Cheesecake. Check out the recipe - http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Caramel-Macchiato-Cheesecake/Detail.aspx<
Caramel Macchiato Cheesecake
Caramel Macchiato CheesecakeThe cheesecake was  inspired by my favorite coffee drink, a smooth and creamy caramel macchiato.  Well, the cheesecake made it to the top 5!  It was so exciting!  I had a chance to win $10,000.00 BUT I didn't win.  I did receive an Allrecipes Cookbook with my published recipe so that was pretty cool!

My excitement didn't stop there as I got a call from allrecipes.com in 2009 and was asked if I would like to do a video for Allrecipes.com "What's Cooking".  Of course, I said YES! I was a little nervous but this is what makes life fun and exciting.  Michael and a camera man (sorry, forgot his name) flew in from Seattle and got to my house mid morning.  When they arrived we took a drive and went to the coffee shop, where I work as a barista and where my recipe was inspired.  I made us all a Caramel Macchiato so they could taste the coffee drink before they tried my cheesecake.  After that we took a drive around town just to show them the area.  Then we headed back to my kitchen so I could make them my cheesecake.  Once the cheesecake was done we decided to head back to the coffee shop where I knew there would be people who would gladly help us eat the cheesecake.  It was such a fun day!  Here is the video... http://allrecipes.tv/whatscooking/janesville_wi.aspx<

Here we are in 2012 and I'm still excited about Allrecipes.com.  I now am an Allrecipes Allstar Brand Ambassador (a voluntary position).  As an Allstar  I get a news letter each month with activities to cook, rate, review, and photograph recipes.  I also have a recipe blog so this program helps me add new recipes to my blog (http://dawns-recipes.blogspot.com) when I come across a keeper.  I really look forward to each month to see what new food products and new recipes I'll be trying.

Like I said, I LOVE Allrecipes.com as it's given me so much joy to be a member.  Thanks Allrecipes!

About Me
I'm married and have two kids 24 and 26. I love to cook for my family. They will eat anything except my kids don't like leftovers. I walk everyday and my husband and kids are runners. I suppose we exercise so we can eat. Food is very important to my family. Cooking is one way I show my love to my family and friends.
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new recipes. I look at cookbooks and on line recipes as a hobby. I have my own blog (http://dawns-recipes.blogspot.com) that I keep all our favorite recipes. A recipe makes it in the blog only if all my family likes it. My husband and kids aren't picky so I can try just about anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I usually do all the cooking and baking but come christmas time my daughter loves to help bake and decorate gingerbreadmen. My husband likes to do the cooking on Sundays which is usually something on the grill or pizza. It's nice to cook but it's also nice to have someone cook for you.
My cooking triumphs
At family gatherings like birthday parties and such I like entertaining. I always pull out my favorite recipes and everyone always leaves happy. My mother in law said once, "I'll be thinking about this meal tomorrow!" When they ask for the recipes it's always a compliment. When I had my daughter's high school graduation party, with my parents help, we served 130 friends and family. Everything turned out great. One of my daughters friends asked who catered the party because she wanted to get the cater for her party. Now that's a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
Once I made a pound cake for a benefit and I under cooked it so it fell. I tried again and that cake looked perfect except when I flipped it to remove it from the pan it stuck and only half came out. I gave up and just donated money to the cause. There was also the time I made jambalaya and I over cooked the shrimp, not good, they were like rubber. There has been a few times that a meal hasn't turned out and we ordered a pizza. Most of the time it's edible but someone will say, "don't make that again!" I'll keep trying new recipes because it's worth it when I come across a keeper. My family doesn't seem to mind when I mess up because they like pizza too!
