I like to find creative ways to cook routine things. I’m the primary, secondary, and last resort cook in the house. My wife tried to make cookies once a few years ago… and I swear she burned herself on purpose. One year, to my amusement, I hid her Christmas present in the oven. Yeah – I’m still in trouble for that one.
My favorite things to cook
On the Grill….
Large cuts of any meat, burgers, pizzas, fish, wings, bacon, cookies (yes cookies on the grill) fruits, veggies, breads, and taters any way I can find.
In the Oven…
My favorite family cooking traditions
None sad to say. My parents got a divorce at an early age...what can you do? I'm looking for some now.
My cooking triumphs
Getting my two year old to eat a prune puree through a turkey baster... it works every time :)
My cooking tragedies
I once made very "memorable" homemade pizzas for the family. I got to the last step and realized I didn’t buy the massive amount of cheese needed to complete the pies (3). So, in a pinch and feeling experimental, and even knowing it was a bad idea, I decided to use the large block of velveeta cheese as a substitute. Well, we all enjoyed the ”cheese blob” with a spoon, knife, and fork in that order. I still get suggestions like “why don’t you put velveeta in that?”
