Squash Braid

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
This was so much fun to make. Im always trying to bake new and unique breads. The squash gave the bread a beautiful golden color inside and out. Braiding it was fun and makes the presentation looks so much better. Thanks for this recipe!

Hungarian Mushroom Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2009
This soup is the BEST mushroom soup I've ever eaten! I love its creaminess. I'm not so sure if there's a point in adding the sour cream. It had a really nice consistency before I added it...I think its just adding extra calories. Anyway, this was great. I will defiantly be making this soup again and again and again. Also, I was thinking it may be really good with tender pieces of beef. Cook soup on low for a couple of hours to tenderize the meat. Im going to try that next time.

Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2009
These were sooo good. I made these for a girlfriend one night while we drank wine. I ended up mixing a little bit of peanut butter into the WHITE chocolate (colored with food coloring) and drizzled it over the strawberries. The subtle taste of peanut better was perfect. We ate as many as we could...we gave up with only 2 strawberries left! YUMM!

Cream of Tomato

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2009
Im giving this recipe 2 stars because it was so bland and flavorless. I added chicken bouillon, garlic powder, more pepper and doubled the herbs. I also poured in an 8 oz can of plain tomato sauce. This gave it more flavor and color, it looked pink. After a few alterations it tasted much better. Although, I wonder if this recipe would benefit from a few hrs on low heat (or crock pot).

Paula's Polenta with Mushroom Topping

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2009
This came out pretty good but I did make a few changes of my own. I sauteed the mushrooms, onions, garlic and added a couple slashes of white wine and some fresh spinach at the end. When the spinach wilted i topped the fried polenta. I enjoyed this and will probably make it again.

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
Okay...soooo i DIDNT like this at all...Im not a picky eater by any means. My boyfriend thought it was great and has basically been eating the loaf himself. I've had zucchini bread before and have liked it...I cut the recipe in half because there's only 2 of us. It came out very eggy tasting. Im not sure if thats how its supposed to taste or if I did something wrong...Im not sure. I might try this again but I will add blueberries.

French Baguettes

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
These came out pretty good. I think I let it rise too long before going into the oven (if thats even possible) because once it was baking it didn't rise anymore. Pretty good though. I tried the ice cube technique...the crust didnt come out as flaky as I had hoped...it was my first time so I will def. to making again...maybe with better results. UPDATE: I made this a 2nd time and used my kitchen aid. I kneaded the salt in after like other reviewers suggested. I also put some water in the oven with it. Came out crispy on the outside. I made one loaf into garlic bread (roasted garlic, butter, evoo and fresh basil and oregano from my garden) and the other Im saving for sammies for lunch tomorrow. Im much happier with my results the 2nd time around.

Cornish Game Hens with Garlic and Rosemary

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2009
this came out soooo good! But I cant fairly rate the recipe because I made a few revisions of my own. First, I didn't use wine or lemons because I didn't have any. I stuffed each hen with half of a small red onion and a clove of garlic each. Instead of wine i used double chicken broth (bouillon) and poured about 1/4 cup of simply apple apple juice into it. Came out soooo good. I served them with twice baked potatoes. Yum!

Spanish Rice II

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2009
This recipe came out pretty good. Im picky when it comes to spanish rice. Ive had better and ive had alot worse but I will make this one again. I added a couple cloves of minced garlic with the sautéing onions (i didn't use bell peppers because I didn't have any on hand). Also, I used a can of diced tomatoes (plain) instead of tomatoes with chilis. This rice was served with shredded mexican style beef (crock pot) and black beans for some tasty burritos!

Newport Clam Chowder

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
So, I cant give this recipe a true review because I didnt follow it exactly. I read the directions and the ingrediants and just kinda did my own thing in the kitchen. I doubled the batch (we love chowder so I wanted a bunch of leftovers). I used 1 jar of clam juice (could have used more), 3 cans of minced clams (juice included) and 1.5lbs fresh clams I found at the grocery store. I also used fat free half and half as well as skim milk and chicken broth (equal parts). Oh, i chopped up some salt pork and cut the onions in half (based on other reviews). I used dried dill and dried thyme. Overall it came out pretty good. Not as thick as we would have liked but good none the less. Served with crusty french bread and oyster crackers. Will def make another chowder attempt. :D

Avocado Shrimp Bisque

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
I wont make this again. I followed the advice of other reviews are pureed the avocado and the shrimp in my food processor...I think this was a mistake. I couldnt taste the shrimp at all! It would have been better off left in chunks...same goes for the avocado. I loooove avocado but I felt like both the shrimp and avo were wasted. I also didnt have any lemon juice on hand so ommited that. Also, it came out very thin and runny so as an attempt to thicken it up I tossed in some left over mashed potatoes I had in the fridge. This helped with the consistancy but maybe it was my fault. It probably tastes much better left alone.

Sour Cream Salad Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
I thought this was okay. I did a bit of tweaking because it came out too sweet for my liking. I added more mustard (spicy brown mustard), fresh parsley, 1 clove garlic, and some caraway seeds. Tossed it all in my food processor..came out great in the end. The mustard and caraway added great flavor. YUM!

Chilled Salmon With Summer Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
So goood! I ommited the corn and red onion (didnt have any on hand so i used a leek instead). I baked the salmon rather than boiling and sprinkled with lemon pepper. After salmon had chilled in the fridge I served it over a bed of fresh spinach and made a sour cream dressing i found on this website. First words out of my boyfriends mouth was "mmmm....mmmmmmmmmmmmm....you gotta make this again"

Chicken Dumpling Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
This soup was outstanding! I made it for my friend and I (she loves dumpling soup). I made a few changes though. First, I didnt put everything in a food processor, just the meat (I actually used left over turkey) to make it fine and crumbly. I beat the egg and mixed into the turkey along with the flour and the other ingredients. I ommited Tarragon because I didnt have any. Also, I boiled the turkey carcus in the chicken broth for a good hour to make a more flavorful stock. This dish was SOOO good. The dumplings were perfect. Although, some reviewers said they were too mushy...I added extra flour to mine and the texture was perfect. Worth the work. YUM!

Moroccan-Style Stuffed Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2008
This was very good. I changed mine up a bit... I didnt have garbanzos or raisins so I left them out. I added corn, soy beans, red pepper, and little pearl onions. After the squash was stuffed I sprinkled with sesame seeds and drizzled with a little sesame oil. Delicious!
