Pink Stuff

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2006
This is yummy. VERY SWEET. We always called it cherry fluff and never used any nuts. My mom would freeze it. I prefer it frozen. It's great to take to picnics, especially if you freeze it because then as it thaws out it's still edible for a while even in the hot weather. But, you don't have to worry about that, because it will get eaten fast!

Real Italian Calzones

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2006
To quote my husband, "This is the best calzone I've ever had!" I used Italian seasoning instead of the basil and cheddar and mozzarella instead of just chedder. I was very pleased to find this recipe because it's so hard to find a true Italian Calzone in my area. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!

Cauliflower and Broccoli Bake

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2006
I'd say, use less milk! I ended up using about 3/4 cup. I also added red pepper and yellow pepper and I steamed all four veggies together (more nutritious than boiling). I used salt, pepper and LOTS of Italian seasoning to season the dish. I cut up two chicken breasts and mixed together all the veggies, the chicken and the cheese sauce altogether. Then, I layered sliced tomatoes on top and sprinkled it with cheese. A main dish for us. YUMMY!

Kraut Bierocks

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2006
This was super good. It was time consuming but I imagine it will become faster as I do it more. I read a lot of reviews, there are a lot of helpful tips in them, I'm not going to retype them all here, but I suggest you read some of the other reviews before you make this recipe. I used 4 cups cabbage and carrot shredded together, 1 cup green pepper and 1 cup sauerkraut, we like a lot of veggies. In fact, next time I may use just 1# of sausage and more veggies. But that's just the veggie lover in me.

Caramel Apple Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2005
YUM! I served this with sweet potatoes and topped the chops and potatoes with the apples and sauce, which I tripled as some other reviewers suggested. I used salted butter and didn't have any pecans, yet a very excellent dish. My favorite part is that it uses very common (assuming you have your spice rack well stocked) ingredients. Oh, I also added a little ginger and cloves to the sauce.

Creamy Rice Pudding

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2005
Quite yummy. I used left over rice that was in the fridge for a few days, so I had to cook and stir on med heat longer (25 or 30 min or so) before it got thick and creamy because my rice was very cold to begin with. It was a little too sweet for my taste, but all in all it's pretty good.

I LOVE this crust! My mom made it to go with the orange blossom pie also found on this web-site.

Orange Blossom Pie

Simple and yummy. My mom made it for Thanksgiving, and everyone liked it. She made a cornflake crust (I checked, and there is a recipe for such a crust on this web-site if anyone is interested) for it and it complimented it quit nicely.

Basic Ham and Bean Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2005
This recipe is very good. I also recommend soaking the beans over night. The over night soak directions are right on the bag. Also, I had a hard time finding a ham hock, so I used instant ham stock. I couldn't even tell the difference. Thanks for the recipe! My family loves it.

Cream of Spinach Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2005
Very fast and very simple and tasty! Taste alone, I'd give it a four, but all considered, it's a five star recipe. I used a 6 oz bag of fresh spinach and blended the spinach/water/bullion mixture in a blender before adding it to the milk. It's a veggie dish that my husband, 3 year-old and I all like. Definitely a keeper!

Mouse's Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2005
This was yummy! 25 min and the bottom had a black crust, but it didn't effect the rest of the dish. When I make this again, I'll but it in the middle of the oven. I thought the bread crums were a little weird, so I'll leave them off next time. I doubled everything, and thought it was super tasty--5 guys at the office, and my 1 and 3 year old agree!

Chicken Enchilada Soup III

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2005
Even my husband, who doesn't like red enchilada sauce, loved this! Three other "meat and potato" guys at work loved this! I used 1c corn muffin mix and 1c all purpose flour because my neighborhood "mom and pop" store didn't have corn flour. It worked beautifully because it thickened it immediately, I didn't have to simmer it for 30 min!! I debated weather or not to purchase the cumin, and I'm so glad I did. It really "made" the soup. It was bland before I added it. I didn't have the other spice, so I used 1 teaspon of the cumin. YUMMY!

Buttermilk Pancakes II

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2005
I'm rating these a four only because of personal preference. If you are looking for a really thick and very very moist pancake, these would be for you. Personally, we like ours a little firmer and drier.

Best pound cake I've ever had. I didn't use any lemon. I used 3t of pure vanilla extrace and 1t of imitation vanilla. It was GOOD!

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2005
I've been making this cornbread for four years now. It is currently my favorite. I've not found a better one. My taste must have changed, because I like my cornbread on the sweet side and this is perfect. The texture is out of this world. Reminds me of the cornbread from kfc only (of course, it's homemade) better. OCT 2005: I followed the recipe and did not change a thing. Very moist and sweet. Although, I was looking for something a little less sweet. It's good, but not what I was looking for. I'm going to keep looking.

Buttermilk-Herb Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2005
I'm not sure what it took to make this bread, but, oh my, it was GOOD! I got home from work today to find this delicious bread on the counter, and I thought to myself: "this is the best bread I've ever had". So, I recommend it! -Husband Note from "wife": I had to add more flour, but it didn't seem to matter. This bread is GOOD! I used a .4 oz pack of ranch dressing because that is what I had on hand. Also, something is wrong with the cooking time. After 20 min at 350, I realized that the bread was still very raw and hiked up the temp to 375 for 20 more min. So, I recommend it!

Baked Round Steak in Barbeque Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 24, 2005
I did double the bbq sauce ingredients, and I slow cooked for a few hours. Round steak is a very tough meat, and does well with tomatoes (the ketchup) and the long, slow cooking. After I browned it I added all the other ingredients and simmered it on the stove for hours. It was very saucy and tender. I thickened up the sauce and served it over mashed potatoes. It was yummy. I think I may add some green pepper and onion when I brown the meat next time.

We really liked this bread! I didn't have a spray bottle or what ever, so I just lightly brushed water on it with a pastry brush.

Pork Tenderloin with Tomato and Pepper Sauce

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2005
Way too much black pepper! That's what made it too spicy. I thought mild chilie tomatoes would make it less spicy as some reviewers said it was too spicy, but it was the pepper that made it that way. So, I had to drain off the pork and tomtoes and added it to mashed potatoes to take away the "burn you lips" flavor, and the final dish was EXCELENT! Me, my husband and my 3 and 1 year old boys loved it. If you make this, season to tast with the pepper.
