Beef Tips

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2006
This was edible, but not my favorite. Definitely not gourmet. Seemed like a "hamburger helper" type meal. I can't put my finger on it but the sauce flavor was off. I think it was either the brown gravy mix or the soy sauce--maybe the combo of the two. It just tasted a little off. Not beefy and flavorful. Won't make it again.

To Die For Blueberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 18, 2006
Fast. Easy. Very Tasty. I make it without the streusel topping and it's great. However, I double the blueberries so the muffin is bursting with blueberries. No need to look further for a berry muffin recipe. I can whip these up in no time now.

Easy Asparagus

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
I haven't typically been an asparagus fan, but I'll eat it in other dishes. I tried this and we LOVE it. Makes the asparagus much more flavorful and appealing. Even my toddler was willing to eat a few.

Bacon Wrapped Hamburgers

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2006
A very tasty change from plain burgers. Also a good solution for low fat hamburger (that tends to break apart on the grill) or hamburger previously frozen (same problem).

Honey Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2006
the honey burns-not caramelizes-burns when you fry it. if you fry it less time, the chicken doesn't get done. Flavor is really good, it's just too bad that it burns and makes such a mess. won't make it again.

Chili-Lime Chicken Kabobs

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
Good flavor. Made it twice exactly. Fast. Easy to adapt for oven roasting the chicken chunks if the grill isn't ready.

Banana Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
Very tasty. Very moist. I'll let it bake a little longer next time, and I may cut down the banana a little. The flavor was great, but I thought it would still be good and set up faster if there was a little less banana. This one is a keeper.

Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2006
Not quite perfect, but good. I substituted 1/2 butter, 1/2 butter flavor shortening. Otherwise, followed proportions to a T. Flavor is decent. I would agree that the shortning flavor is a little distracting in the background, but not awful. The consistency is excellent! The taste was a bit better after the cake was refrigerated a day or so. I think I'll try all butter next time because it's pretty good otherwise. Not at all gritty.

Baked Cod with Roasted Red Pepper Horseradish Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2005
This was delicious, and I'm not a huge fish fan. I modified it a bit to use what I had on hand, but I followed the "spirit" of the recipe. I made horsey sauce from scratch at home instead of using prepared. I also made a mock-cajun topping instead. The red pepper sauce is excellent. I added about a TBSP of lemon juice and a little salt to bring out the flavors more. Yum. I'll probably just use crushed ritz crackers on top next time for simplicity and so other flavors don't compete with the flavor of the sauce.

Cartoon Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2005
Great concept. However, mine turned out with an unpleasant rubbery texture--not the light, fluffy, moist cake I expect. I was skeptical when no oil or water was added, and I think there was a reason. I did substitute an equal amout of canned raspberry pie filling for the cherry pie filling. The flavor was fine, but the texture really turned me off. I won't make this again.
