About this Cook
I own a custom embroidery store and work 6-7 days a week so cooking is FUN when I get to do it. I make a point of trying to cook 4-6 nights a week. Leftovers are loved in my household. I'm usually expected to cook enough so there ARE leftovers. I have my elderly parents living with me so meal preparation is always a challenge. We also have 5 birds (2 are parrots and love fresh veggies), 2 cats and 2 dogs. We live by a marsh stream on 22 acres and love it here. We are new to Maine and I have a beautiful kitchen with lots for room for the first time in my life. I LOVE to cook there.
My favorite things to cook
Mexican food! I like it spicy. Also, and trying my hand at Jamaican Jerk chicken lately. I LOVE trying new recipes and my family gets excite4d whenever I tell them I'm going to "experiment" on them.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Texas sheet cake on EVERY birthday. A big holiday dinner with all the trimmings and family. Everyone is welcome and the more the merrier.
My cooking triumphs
When I finally got the hang of gravy from scratch! I gave up years ago but's better every time.
My cooking tragedies
FUDGE!!! Remember the old test to see if it was cooked enough? Drop some in cold water and GUESS. My fudge used to get eaten with a spoon. But at least it got eaten.

Jan's Pretzel Dogs
Never tried something like this before. Rave reviews from family and it wasn't that hard. I was hesitant about using beer as I have had "beer battered" foods before and didn't like the taste of beer. We used an ultra lite beer and it was awesome. No beer flavor just a great, all around recipe. Will definitely make again. I've never even written a review before but this was so good I couldn't resist. Thank you. Going to go use the rest for pretzels now.
