Crispy Fish

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2006
Have made this twice. It keeps getting better and better. Even fish hating 11 year old thinks this is awesome. Very light and crispy with just hints of spice.

Jamie's Minestrone

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2006
Excellent minestrone Jamie! It's so enjoyable to make a soup like this. All that chopping is good for the soul. My hard-working ironworker BF practically inhaled the contents of the pot when he was hit by the fabulous aroma at the front door. After a long hard day "It's like walking into heaven". All 4 of my children love it too. Thank you Jamie.

Sean's Falafel and Cucumber Sauce

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
These were very good. Lovely blend of aromatic spices. Somewhat of a nice change from the usual burgers. I made the patties ahead of time and put them in the fridge. I think this helped them stay together when fried. The cucumber sauce really sets up nicely when made an hour or so ahead. My man, who hates yogurt, liked the sauce very much.

Cream of Fresh Asparagus Soup II

Reviewed: May 12, 2006
Truely a wonderful homemade soup. Very easy to make. I wasn't sure the "man" liked it very much until he began hunting for leftovers, of which there were none! Make sure you soak and rinse the asparagus well. I could detect a bit of grit. (entirely my fault). My 10 year old liked it too. Next time I will reserve some asparagus tips for a varied texture. Thank you for this yummy recipe.

Brooklyn Girl's Penne Arrabiata

Reviewed: May 12, 2006
Very, very good. Authentic Italian tasting dish. Easy to make and the next day taste is even better. The zing of the red pepper flakes is just the right amount. My 11 year old son deemed it perfect. This is one of those dishes that you have elsewhere and wish you could make at home.

The Best Chicken Salad Ever

Reviewed: May 12, 2006
I have always bought chicken salad sandwiches never thinking that I could make one myself. This is fabulous. My daughter couldn't stop eating it right from the bowl.I think using boneless skinless chicken breasts roasted for about 40 min. in the oven is much tastier than any tinned chicken could ever be. I make this at least once a week,

Authentic Thousand Island Dressing

Reviewed: May 12, 2006
I agree with DANMAN commercial Thousand Island has ruined a once exquisite salad dressing. This is how it should taste! All of the ingredients blend to make such a unique flavour. I have found this dressing keeps well for a couple of weeks in the refrigerator.

A Number One Egg Bread

Reviewed: May 20, 2006
Absolutely fabulous! This was the first time I have ever tried making bread. I read about "proofing" on this site so I did that and I did use my stand mixer with the dough hook. I turned the oven on the lowest temp. then turned it off and let the dough rise in there with the oven door open.I couldn't believe how much the dough had risen the first time. A wonderful aroma will fill your kitchen when baking this bread. When it comes out of the oven all a lovely dark golden brown colour you will be amazed. "A work of art"

Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2006
Lovely lovely soup. Aroma and texture are wonderful. The whole family enjoyed this one. Even those who did not think they liked roasted red peppers! I roasted the peppers in a 400 degree oven for 40 min. Next time I will increase the time a little and perhaps turn the peppers over during cooking. I think when blackened flavour is intensified. Thanks

Manicotti Alla Romana

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2006
Excellent. I used 1/2 ground beef 1/4 sweet and 1/4 hot italian sausage which I thought improved the flavour of the meat filling. The white sauce is a must to really appreciate this recipe. It rounds out the tomatoe sauce beautifully. Use homemade or a good quality spagetti sauce. I am a lasagna fan but this ranks right up there. Thanks for a great meal.

Curried Cauliflower

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2006
This was very tasty and a good way to get the non cauliflower eaters to enjoy this vegetable. I found the sauce a little thin and would enjoy a stronger curry flavour but overall a nice sidedish. I will make again.

Baklava

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2006
This sure impressed my man. I didn't change a thing and found the dough not too difficult to work with. Make sure to keep it covered with a damp tea towel and work gently and quickly. I made the honey syrup first so it would cool. It was just the right amount. Next time I will chop the walnuts up a litter more. Thanks for this great recipe.

Gnocchi Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2006
Very easy to put together. Nice simple dinner with a salad and some nice fresh bread. I used 2 sweet Italian and 1 hot Italian sausage. Next time I will use all hot - just to give it a bit more interest. Very kid friendly.

Barbecue Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
This was fun to put together and as a "rib rookie" I must say these turned out fantastic. I boiled the ribs for about 40 min. Marinated them for about 6 hrs. Then baked them in the oven for 30 min. Basting them every 5 minutes or so. The meat was tender and after warming the leftover marinade I used that as a dipping sauce. Yummy!

Split Pea and Ham Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
Great simple directions to make a wonderful old fashionedsoup. Even the "pea haters", myself included, really enjoyed this. I used ham hocks which gave nice flavour. Next time I will try yellow split peas and a smoked picnic ham with the bone in.

Beef Stew IV

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2007
It is so nice to know how to put together a warm and comforting stew. I doubled this recipe and followed direction exactly, but added mushrooms a little brocolli, parsnips and fresh tomatoes. I think you cou;d add whatever you had on hand. This was a great meal served with garlic bread. It reheats nicely and I think the flavour improves after a day or two. Everyone in the family enjoyed this.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2007
Make sure you thinly slice the potatoes so they all cook evenly. I found the sauce a little runny. Overall the flavour was good.
