Microwave Popcorn

Reviewed: Aug. 8, 2008
I am enjoying this right now. I have a powerful microwave and have tried 2 min. at full power and 2 1/2 min at power level 9. Both times I only had a few unpopped kernels and no problem with burning. I will play around with the butter salt flavouring. Thanks for sharing this recipe. Great idea!

Chicken Satay

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
Very good. The chicken was really tender and kept the marinade flavour though grilling. I marinated overnight which I like to do as it leaves little prep for next day's meal. I can see how some may think there is too much curry but personally I found the balance to be fine. There are many curries, some stronger tasting than others. I served this with plain rice, fasoliyyeh bi z-z (Syrian green beans) from this site and The best Thai peanut sauce also from this site. Wow I really had an AR meal tonight. Thanks for an enjoyable dinner.

The Best Thai Peanut Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2008
I made this the day before to accompany Chicken Satay. The extra time gave this sauce a chance to come together flavourwise. The cilantro added about an hour before serving is important to the fresh taste. Very good. Thanks for the recipe.

Eggplant Parmesan II

Reviewed: Jul. 16, 2008
I found this rather time consuming. It took me longer than 25 minutes to prep. I used 2 eggplants, which were plenty. The 2 eggs were not quite enough to coat the eggplant. I used 3 cups of bread crumbs rather than 4 and still had some left over. Make sure you have at least 3 baking sheets as my 2 sliced eggplants barely fit. The taste is okay but a little bland.

Baked Apricot Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2008
This made a nice meal. Everyone gave it a thumbs up. Very easy to make. I really like the Chutney Chicken from this site but this was a nice change. I may add a little red pepper flakes &/or garlic next time to spice it up a little.

Easy Indian Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2008
We really liked this. I was practically licking my fingers! I don't have anything to compare this recipe to as I have never had butter chicken. I purchased the tandoori masala at an Indian food store (lots of them here in Toronto). There was almost an entire wall dedicated to different masalas. I think it really added to the flavour. I enjoy hunting for ingredients I have never used before. The sauce has an odd consistancy, but I have been advised by my friends in the recipe exchange that when cream/milk is mixed with tomatoes the sauce is supposed to look that way. I served this with rice and green beans. Thanks for a great meal.

Sugared Rhubarb Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2008
These were very nice. I like the fact that there were 12 as I don't want too many sweets around for too long! The rhubarb is a tangy little treasure to bite into. I had to use vegetable oil and 2% milk as that is what I had. The cake in this cupcake was moist, smooth and not overly sweet. I would think that any fruit would be a hit in this dessert.

Spicy Garlic Lime Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2008
This was okay. The spices were a nice blend and the chicken remained fairly juicy. The sauce wasn't appealing to look at and had an uneven consistancy. Dispite the limes being a good flavour, the taste was somewhat bitter. Certainly edible but not my favourite. Thanks anyway.

Brazilian White Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
Sorry but I was disappointed with this rice. The taste wasn't "wow" as I expected it to be considering its high rating. There is nothing wrong with it but my family could not tell the difference between this and just plain old rice. Thanks anyway.

Orange Pops

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
My son went crazy over these. Really strong orange flavour which I will change up for cherry or grape next time. I used 2 popsicle trays which this recipe filled, along with a small cup extra. That's 16 plus popsicles. They are a little difficult to remove. I held a cup of warm water underneath and used a knife which worked. Perhaps not the healthiest but nice for a treat once in a while. Thank you.

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2008
The more I use this recipe the more I appreciate it. The chicken always turns out juicy with skin full of the rub flavour. I add flour and chicken broth to the pan drippings to make a tasty gravy. Waiting till chickens are on sale for 2 for 1 makes this main course very economical. This dish feeds 7 - 8 people and leftovers if you have any, can be frozen of course. Thanks for this recipe I will use it again and again.

Bow Ties with Sausage, Tomatoes and Cream

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2008
I make this dish very often. It is a family favourite. I have taught 2 of my sons to make it. Try to use good quality diced tomatoes. I have found that some are much better than others and it really shows in the end result. Fresh parsley makes a big difference too. Thanks so much for this recipe it is fabulous!!!

Fasoliyyeh Bi Z-Zayt (Syrian Green Beans with Olive Oil)

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
I suppose it was the interesting method that intrigued me. I'm not a green bean lover and have never prepared them from frozen but some family members are, so I thought I would give it a go. Few ingredients are required and really clear instructions are given in this recipe. The slight browning of the beans gives this dish the most interesting flavour and texture. If you are in the mood for something "outside the box" this will dazzle your taste buds. UPDATE - I have found the French cut style of frozen beans are the best to use.

Grecian Pork Tenderloin

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
Very good. I found that 1/2 of the marinade was sufficient for 2lbs of meat. The lime added just the right subtle tang. Using real limes is important to the taste. I used about 9 regular limes to get 3/4c. The amount of oregano was just right. After marinating don't be surprised that the meat looks greyish. It is reacting to the lime juice. I think the 2-5 hrs recommended shouldn't be far exceeded or you may end up "cooking" the meat. Make sure you have some left-overs. This tenderloin is delicious cold. Thank you Dave Nash for a wonderful recipe.

Lemon Horseradish New Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
I am not a potato fan although I serve them often. These tasted wonderful with its lemony-horseradish cooking sauce. Don't shy away if the horseradish scares you. It is tamed by the lemon and the starchiness of the potatoes. I used regular white table potatoes, skin on, cut into at least quarters. I parboiled them for 10 minutes to shorten the 1 hour baking time. I stirred them halfway, kept the cover on and they were cooked in about 40 minutes. I let them rest for 10 minutes in the baking dish when they were done to soak up the delicious sauce. I'm sure this would pair with any kind of meat, it went particularly well with steak. Thanks for a real treat that I plan to make again soon.

Salsa Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2008
This was tastier than I expected. The chicken breasts were very tender and juicy. I used the taco seasoning mix from this site which is so economical, convenient and better tasting than the commercial packaged ones. As expected the males of the family inhaled this meal. I served with plain rice but a spanish or mexican rice would have made a better side. Overall very enjoyable and super quick and easy to prepare.

Baked Pork Chops I

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2008
This wasn't so great for us. I found the mushroom soup/wine mix made a sour tasting sauce. The breaded meat stayed tender and had nice colour but not a lot of flavour dispite the seasonings. Thanks anyway.
