About this Cook
I am 32 years old,married for 12 years (in Dec. 2008) to a wonderful man and we have three terrific boys.I have been cooking on my own since I was six years old- a from scratch cherry pie was my first accomplishment. I am passing on my love of cooking to our three boys. We have a great time preparing healthy and fun foods for everyone to enjoy.They love it when we alternate days so everyone has a chance to cook with Mommy and get in some alone time.
My favorite things to cook
I think I would have to choose desserts as my number one favorite.I haven't found the perfect recipe yet for light and fluffy homemade cakes-- but I love making homemade breads and complicated desserts like Baklava. I regret that I haven't found the time yet to make puff pastry or phyllo from scratch. I am requested--really, demanded to make Baklava and a Morrocan style short ribs dish for our annual family Christmas dinner.I do enjoy trying original recipes, and need to convince our families to let me break free from my "traditional" Christmas menu.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am teaching my boys to cook. I think that would be a tradition I wish to have continue into the next generation.I hope they will grow up loving to bring family into their kitchen and bond with their children over yeast rolls warm from the oven and flavorful soups created from the pantry and their imagination.
My cooking triumphs
Having my picky nephews and nieces ooh and ahh over a dinner I made- and asking for seconds. It is a triumph when my hard working husband (who has become a foodie and great cook in his own right) comes home and is drooling because of the delicious aromas that met him at the back door.
My cooking tragedies
There have been a lot! I would say the worst experience was thinking I could make cupcakes from scratch when I was 9 years old. I knew what ingredients but-- most assuredly not the measurements! They were the nastiest, grayest lumps of gunk I ever saw... I was so ashamed, I threw the whole thing in the garbage and realized that certain things required following directions to the T.
