Restaurant Style Beef and Broccoli

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2012
I liked this but didn't love it. I am allergic to shellfish, so I had to omit the oyster sauce, which I do realize contributes to a lot of the flavor. I substituted fish sauce and beef broth for the oyster sauce and then made the recipe as directed and it turned out just a little less flavorful than I was expecting.

Lemony Chicken with Artichoke Hearts

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2012
I'm not sure if I did something wrong, but my results for this dish were not as good as it sounds like everyone else's were. I did not find the dish to have much flavor.

Amazing Italian Lemon Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2012
This was REALLY good! The capers add a wonderful flavor to the dish and it requires little seasoning or enhancements. I followed the recipe almost exactly. The thought of adding a cup of butter really made me sick, so I instead doubled the white wine (actually, I substituted this for chicken stock) and increased the heavy cream a bit and then only used 4 tablespoons of butter for the sauce. I really enjoyed the flavors and all of the ingredients in the pasta. It made great leftovers too!

Roquefort Pear Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2012
I really detest salad and went out on a whim to try this one and it is a real winner! Never have I ever gone back for seconds on salad, but you better believe I did with this one. The real star of this is the candied pecans - so good! When you're preparing them, be careful not to let them burn. All of the other flavors work together so nicely. One thing I would change next time is to prep the dressing ahead of time and then strain out the garlic, as I got a few bites that were extremely potent. Otherwise this is a fabulous salad.

Robbi's M&M Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2011
The grocery store where I grew up made the best M&M cookies and after moving away I was craving them and these really hit the spot!

Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2011
I made this as directed, except I used french fried onions instead of crushed crackers for the topping. This was SO SO SO good! Everyone loved it so much there weren't any leftovers at Thanksgiving.

Almond Shortbread I

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2011
These taste wonderful but the dough is SO dry - even for shortbread, so it made it really difficult to roll out and shape.

Mom's Brussels Sprouts

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2011
I really liked the flavor of this - I used fresh brussels sprouts and then combined all of the other ingredients in a saucepan. Next time I will let the brown sugar/butter get a bit thicker to provide a nicer coating over the brussels sprouts.

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2011
YUM! That's all I have to say. I didn't make any adjustments at all - it was perfect just as described in the recipe. This is MUCH better the day you bake it, the crust starts to get soggy if it sits too long - best to eat it all right away.

Ginger Veggie Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2011
This was pretty good - there was nothing "bad" about it, but it was a little bland for my taste. If I was a vegetarian it would have probably been great, but I'm not, and this wasn't filling enough, as is, to be a main course dish. I added water chestnuts for a bit of a crunch. It's a good start, but could use a bit of pizazz.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2011
Yum! This pumpkin bread turned out really well - perhaps not quite as moist as I would have preferred, but I don't have a complaint about it being dry. I used this recipe for one 5x9" loaf of bread (cooking time was about 60-65 minutes) + 11 muffins (cooking time was about 20 minutes) and both turned out wonderfully.

Parmesan Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2011
I had high hopes for great flavor in this dish, but unfortunately was disappointed by lack of flavor. It was very easy to make, but the pork chops themselves didn't have much flavor at all.

Easy Batter Fruit Cobbler

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
I didn't love this as much as it seems like everyone else did. This isn't what I think of when I think "cobbler." It's more of a cake batter consistency that just hardens around the fruit. It tastes pretty good, but it really isn't a cobbler, in my opinion.

Balsamic Roasted Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Aug. 16, 2011
Great, easy recipe for roasted potatoes. There was a lot of flavor from the herbs, as well as the balsalmic. This is a great spin on just roasting with rosemary and olive oil.

Mini Southwestern Corn Pup Muffins with Fiesta Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
This was a fun recipe to try! I made it by following the recipe - the only alteration I made was that I chopped up some of the hot dogs and scattered them throughout the batter - I also used full-size muffin tins. The dipping sauce was a great addition too!

Chicken Lo Mein

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2011
As it sounds like other reviewers also think, this is a good starting place for chicken lo mein, but it is not quite there yet.... I followed the recipe pretty much exactly, with the exception of reducing the soy sauce, per reviewers suggestions, and I added a tablespoon of hoisin sauce. My gripes with this are that the sauce is far too runny - perhaps cutting the liquid in half but keeping the same proportions of flavor bases would do the trick. Also, I love ginger, but the flavor of the ginger in this was too overpowering - none of the other flavors could get through. I used Chinese egg noodles, but would recommend angel hair over linguine.

Limehouse Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2011
Great recipe for a nice summer day! I love the citrusy flavor that the lime gives the dish. I made just as suggested in the recipe and it turned out great. I have to say, though, that my oven cooking time was MUCH shorter than in the directions. I served this with green beans and cornbread.
