Kung Pao Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2001
This is for the person who asked about draining water chestnuts: Yes they should be drained unless specified otherwise in the recipe.

These cookies are rather bland and uninteresting. They are similar to toll house cookies with cashews instead of walnuts or pecans. Perhaps a little salt added to the dough would help. Additional flavorings are another option.

Meal-In-One Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2002
My husband and I loved this recipe! It is best when served immediately after adding the dressing, but is also good as a leftover (unlike most lettuce salads). My children weren't crazy about it. But then, they don't like many veggies that aren't drenched with ranch dressing.

Buttermilk Honey Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 20, 2004
This is a note to the person who wanted to know what size loaf this recipe makes- the loaf size is determined by the amount of flour used in the recipe. That information should be listed in your manual. To the person who complained that the loaf turned into nothing but a blob in her bread machine: you need to check the dough in your machine. You can add liquid or flour to achieve the correct consistency for your dough.

Fennel and Orange Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2005
This salad is a very nice change from more traditional lettuce salads. Fennel has a mild anise flavor- don't be afraid to try it!

Cherry Poppyseed Twinks

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2005
My family didn't enjoy these much. The flavor of the cherries was over powered by the almond flavoring.

I didn't add the garlic. Since previous reviewers indicated that the naan is best fresh, I made half the dough into a loaf of bread. Both were very good! Thanks for sharing the recipe Mic.

Popularity Cookies

I have made these several times, but in truth, I should never make them. I'll end up having to buy bigger pants!

Moravian Sugar Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 19, 2005
I am not sure what exactly went wrong with this recipe, but it did not work out well at all. The dough rose out of control. There are several things that appear to have been incorrect: too much yeast (most recipes would call for 2 teaspoons, not tablespoons; too much sugar for a yeast bread; incorrect pan size or description. A 9X13 baking PAN would probably worked better than a 9X13 baking SHEET. I may try this recipe again, but would like to know if I misinterpreted

Fisherman Stew

Reviewed: Jul. 3, 2005
The flavor of this stew is excellent! I made only minor changes to the ingredients, such as adding a 1/2 cup of uncooked rice. I did, however change the preparation. I am not sure why the recipe calls for the fish to be cooked in water before adding to the recipe. This really isn't necessary; the whole recipe can be prepared in one pot. Saute the onion in olive oil in a large pot or dutch oven and proceed with the recipe as written, combining in the same pot. Add the fish about 15 minutes before you want the stew to be ready. It will cook in the broth. Be sure to include the full amount of liquid given in the recipe

Pumpkin Corn Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2005
I actually (a rarity) made these muffins according to the recipe and they turned out very well- my husband loved them! I would have prefered them to be bit a little less sweet. next time, I will probably cut the sugar in half. If you decide to try this recipe think cornbread rather than pumpkin pie. If you are after a spicier pumpkin pie type flavor it would probably be better to choose a different recipe. These are a nice accompaniment to soup or stew and would also be good for a nourishing, not too sweet, breakfast.

Slow Cooker Mediterranean Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2005
I enjoyed this recipe after adding a dollop of plain yogurt. Unfortunately, my family didn't like this stew at all. My husband did concede that adding the yogurt made it "more palatable". The flavors are somewhat unusual for those of us with very "american" tastes- which the family has. It was definitely worth a try though.

Baked Asparagus with Balsamic Butter Sauce

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2006
I can hardly believe how good this is! This sauce also works well on lightly cooked greens. It also works well to melt the butter in the microwave and mix the vinegar and soy sauce in the same cup for easier clean up.
