My Mom taught me the basics of cooking at age 8yrs. I had to cook family dinners at least 3 times a week from then on. I love to experiment with ingredients and love to cook for people who love to EAT! I have 4 sons all with different taste choices and a husband who will eat most anything. He does do the grilling and is very talented with our old fashioned Webber Grill using briquets.
My favorite things to cook
Pies, soups, stews, Mexican, Italian, Pasta dishes would top my list. I also love to make Chili, twice baked potatoes and turkey & dressing!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My childhood family usually had a huge leg-of-lamb for Christmas dinner. My Grandma taught me how to make the wonderful mint sauce to use on the lamb.
Our family almost always makes homemade spaghetti sauce. I kept have kept the traditon alive by teaching my sons the ingredients.
We always love to make sandwiches for New Year's Day, and I lay out an assortment of meats, cheeses, pickles, olives, etc. and condiments for them to experiment with. This year we even added "grilled" to our option of preparing them. It is a fun sandwich filled day
My cooking triumphs
It would be the carmel cheesecake I made this year. The recipie came from this website.
My cooking tragedies
I made a huge pot of chili and decided to experiment with different types of chili powder. I adore spicy chili and this pot was extremely spicy. My son (who also loves spicy) took one bite and started flapping and choking on it's highly firey taste. I ended up having to dump the whole pot, no one could take the heat!(Including me)
