New England Blueberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2011
I wish I could give this cake a 5 star review but, unfortunately, it just isn't nearly as good as I expected. Am rating it as above on ease of preparation but, to me, it does not compare to my regular one that is made by the creaming method. This tends to be a heavy cake so if you like that then go for it.

Blueberry Coffee Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2011
Oh so nice and easy and good but needs some flavoring so I like to add about 2 tsps. of lemon rind. This recipe also works for raspberries - frozen or fresh.

Curried Zucchini Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2011
We really like this soup and the fact that it has so few ingredients makes it even more appealing, but we do prefer it a bit spicier so add some hot pepper flakes and grated fresh ginger (this is to suit our taste buds ). Always serve with some Greek yoghurt on top[

Chicken and Gnocchi Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2011
Comfort food a it's best. My husband loves, loves gnocchi and to be added to a good soup base makes it even better. Cornstarch is not necessary nor are any other changes.

Easy Baking Powder Drop Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
Excellent drop biscuit and the secret is to have butter and milk very cold. Thanks for a great recipe but have to stress that butter and milk be very cold otherwise they will not be flaky.

Tea Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2011
As written they taste too much like shortening but the quantities are dead. As another reviewer suggested use half butter and you have a better tasting biscuit.....happy eating.

Divine Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2011
Never have reviewed a spaghetti sauce before - and this one is almost perfect for our tastes I do add about 1 tsp. of brown sugar (or honey)....and that is the only change.

Vegetable Medley I

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2011
Have been making this (or very similar) for years. Even those who do not care for zucchini gobble it up. I do add some hot pepper flakes and sometimes, before serving, top it with crumbled feta cheese.

Pumpkin Spice Cake I

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2011
Some have complained about this cake being dry - better to substitute half butter for the shortening which also gives a richer flavor. Great keeping cake.

Spiced Peach Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
Rating above as written but prefer to use 1/4 oil rather than applesauce because it gives to moister texture. Also, soak the oatmeal for at least 20 mins. The flavor is great but these changes are to suit our tastes. Thanks for another muffin to add to my files.

Empire Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
I used to make these at Xmas because not only did they taste wonderful but also looked so attractive. I have never used a full tsp. of baking powder (half I found is ample) because it affects the shortbread texture.

Golden Rum Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2011
When I started making this cake quite a few years ago I had a neighbour who used to go nuts over it and I swear she could smell it before it cooled. Excellent cake and I always used dark rum. Did try golden but not as good.

Italian Sausage and Peppers with Penne

Have made this several times and it is good - so easy and quick. Do prefer other sauces rather than Prego (e.g. Barilla Marinara) and also add mushroom and black olives.

Honey Wheat Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2011
If you are looking for a very basic muffin (whch goes well with a meal) this is fine. If you totally change this recipe (which no doubt the author has tested many times) and give it a 5 star rating it makes absolutely no sense..............

Raspberry Lemon Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
Nice textured bread and such a treat to have a bread like this that isn't loaded with sugar (sorry to all you people who like sweet!!!). Just as well we don't all have the same taste buds Also, think I prefer plain yoghurt for taste and texture and add more lemon rind and some pure lemon juice. Blueberries can be substituted.

Pumpkin Tea Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2011
To our taste buds this is one of the best sweet tea breads on Allrecipes because we never really cared for the oil based ones. As is usual I reduced the sugar by 1/2 cup and the fruit and nuts can be varied to suit tastes without spoiling a wonderful bread. Thanks for a great contribution to my files....bulging files!!!!!
