Curried Pumpkin Soup

Reviewed: Jul. 30, 2012
Coming from a non pumpkin eater this is very good but a little too sweet. Substituting Granny Smith apples seems to make a big difference.

Healthier Southern Peach Cobbler

At last a peach cobbler that isn't sickenly sweet - otherwise we just can't eat it. Thanks indeed for adding something to my files that is super.

My Mother-in-Law's Plum Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2012
Love plums and this bread. The addition of a tbls. of orange rind makes it even better for us. The same problem exists with ratings unfortunately because you cannot rate a recipe with 5 if you have totally changed it. Sorry, but this is always happening and no doubt hear it all the time.

Flapper Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2012
So long since I have had this pie or even heard of it. This is a great recipe and, like another reviewer mentioned, prefer it with a regular pie crust. When whipping egg white adding a pinch of cream of tartar keeps them from weeping. I do this with lemon meringue pies and it works.

Chocolate Rum Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2012
Very good as written but felt that dark rum gave more flavor....at least if you like a stronger rum taste. Definintely allow to sit for a couple of days before using to develop the flavors.

Kay's Shortbread

Reviewed: Jul. 17, 2012
Only reason I did not give this a 5 rating is because it really does not need baking powder. Have many many different recipes for shortbread and each gives a slightly different texture. The texture of this is perfect and please only SOFTEN the butter because if you melt it you will be disappointed.

Chicken Milano

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2012
I have made this recipe several times but it had a different name.....always wonderful but, of course, very rich. Only made for special dinners and friends who are not watching their waistlines!!!

Lovely little tea bread and it stays moist for a few days. I did use all butter and added a tsp. of grated orange rind to enhance the orange flavor. No complaiints about this recipe........

Raspberry Streusel Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2012
My usual complaint with muffin/quick bread recipes that they are too sweet so nice to see something less so.....thanks for a great recipe.

Southern Grilled Barbecued Ribs

Reviewed: Jul. 2, 2012
I am certainly in the minority but these turned out so tough they were barely edible. Followed the recipe exactly and even tried cooking for an extra hour but still tough. Sorry - wonder if anyone else had this problem.

Orange Broccoli Florets

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2012
I guess I am in the minority but liked this very much - the addition of some grated fresh ginger does liven up the flavor and marries well with the orange. Try that version you might be surprised.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 26, 2012
We love oatmeal cakes and the flavors in this one are excellent but, find it better to cream the butter and sugar separately before adding the oatmeal mixture. I feel it gives a lighter end product and also, because of preference, cut back on sugar by 1/2 cup and still excellent results. P.S. I can never understand how a recipe that is submitted can be given a high rating after it has been changed so much it doesn't even resemble the original cake........I rest my case.

Luscious Lemon Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2012
Have made a very similar recipe to this for years and always gobbled up. I too double crust ingredients and topping - otherwise they are too thin for our liking. ALSO, for special treats, I ice them with cream cheese frosting flavored with lemon juice and lemon rind. This makes a very sweet and rich square, but cutting into small pieces a sumptuous taste. Always line the tin with your choice of lining and grease well - or use Pam.

Cinnamon Mocha Cupcakes

Like the recipe especially being made with buttermilk. When it comes to the coffee flavor coffee liqueur is more interesting and more pronounced. Certainly a keeper.

As written only the above rating. It requires 1 tsp. of baking soda - at least that is what I find.

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 17, 2012
I feel an improvement is to cream the butter and sugar until very light and fluffy and adding the eggs, one at a time, beating until well blended. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk but do not overmix. This method has always worked better for me and produces a better textured bread.

Easy and Quick Cream Cheese Potatoes

Very good and definitely do not use a mixer - more character this way. Do agree with the reviewer that uses extra butter - for us only a few more tablespoons but depends on your taste.
