Party Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
This is a great cheese ball and highly recommend it. The reviewers that had trouble shaping it may I suggest that you chill the mixture until stiffened and then the nuts will not disappear and you can make a very attractive centerpiece. Good luck....do this with all cheese balls.

Zaz's Oatmeal Shortbread

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2010
This makes an oatmeal cookie (which is fine) but definitely not shortbread and the reason probably is the baking soda. As far as a cookies goes no problem. Sorry.......

Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2010
A lovely twist on a citrus bread. Didn't need the glaze (we don't care for this type bread if it is too sweet) but added more orange rind and a handful of dried cranberries really make it interesting.

Applesauce Bread I

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
We love applesauce breads and this one is easy and very moist. Some reviewers said it did not have enough flavor (which I tend to agree with) so my answer is to substitute 1/2 melted butter for some of the oil. The butter deepens the flavor and I think enhances the apple flavor as well.

Gingered Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
Have been using ginger with squash for a long time but only freshly grated ginger, plus the orange juice, some orange rind and brown sugar to taste. I think you will find this a little more zippy.

Butternut and Acorn Squash Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2010
Lovely soup but just too sweet for us. The answer being to substitute 1/2 cup fresh orange juice for the chicken broth and cut back on brown sugar. Also some grated fresh ginger gives it more pep.

Molasses Spice Muffins

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2010
This recipe got my attention because we love anything with molasses and spice, unfortunately I ended up having to make a few changes. First I did not use wheat flour (only in bread) and then used regular buttermilk. For us the end result was perfect (p.s. there is no really good substitute for regular buttermilk). That is my opinion of course!!!!

Crumb Cake I

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2010
Other reviewers are correct when they say this cake does not taste or have the texture of a crumb cake. Crumb cakes are nearly always made with buttermilk and baking soda. If you can find a similar recipe and make the adjustments I think you will find a huge difference

Yogurt, Sun-Dried Tomato, Walnut, and Basil Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2010
Excellent light tasting dip and best served with vegetables - at least for us. Will be made often. Thanks for an inventive recipe.

Simple White Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2010
I appear to be in the minority but the addition of vanilla and salt makes a big difference, and if you want a lighter cake please subsitute cake flour and also add a little more milk. Full fat milk is better and definitely butter.

Lemon Cream Cupcakes

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
One of the best cupcake recipes I have seen on this site. Cut back on sugar by 1/4 cup (and maybe even more) with no problem and also added more lemon zest. Thanks for a great recipe.

Apple-Curry Tuna Melts

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
What a great way to serve boring old tuna and the curry and apple certainly make these into lovely melts. Curry paste (I feels) works better than powder. Will be made over and over again because cut small they make good appetizers.

Asparagus and Mozzarella Stuffed Chicken Breasts

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
As it stands it is a bit dry and needs more flavor, but the idea is wonderful because we love asparagus. Makes a difference if you wrap the chicken (each breast) in bacon. A great favor boost and the chicken is not dry. Thanks for a great idea

Chunky Apple Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2010
I hestitated even giving this recipe a 4 but did so based on flavor - not texture. I guess I am in the minority but I did have to add more flour otherwise the raisins would have been on the bottom - very soupy mixture. The recipe did not state how well the eggs, etc should beaten. It would always be considered very important that a contributor state exactly if the liquid ingredients are to be beaten with a mixeror just whisked together. This could make a bit difference to the finished product. Unfortunately on this site it isn't possible to contact the author of a recipe directly which would be a big asset.

Irish Brown Soda Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2010
Sorry, but there are better recipes for irish brown soda bread. This is OK but needs a bit more flavor. Suggest the following : add 1 tsp. baking powderl, 3 ozs. butter (not margarine or shortening) and a tablespoon or so of brown sugar. I think you will find it more interesting. I come from Ireland and have made many, many types of this bread.

Julie's Famous Macaroni and Cheese

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2010
Had to cut back on portions because this definitely makes enough for a crowd. Tastes the way macaroni and cheese should taste - creamy, tangy and just the right consistency. Thanks.......

Apple Walnut Squares

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2010
Rarely rate under a four but, for us, the taste wasn't right. All we could taste was the baking soda. I feel the quantity is too much for the amount of flour. Might try playing around with this and definitely use butter. Sorry........

Easiest Spicy Cod

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
Love this easy recipe but use haddock (our haddock is better than cod). Also add Jack cheese for the last 5 mins. of cooking or a Mexican shredded mix. Make this a couple of times a month and never have leftovers. A recipe does not have to be complicated to be good.

Volcano Pancake

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2010
This is very good and can see making other additions such as fruit. Do find it a little eggy but syrup covers that taste quite well. No problem with it rising and used ingredients exactly as written.I feel that the cheese detracts from it. This IS NOT A RECIPE TO PLAY AROUND WITH - so please rate it as is.

Herbed Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 21, 2010
Can't believe that this has not been reviewed before now. This is a very good mixture (especially if you love soups like we do). I did cut back on tomato juice because I don't care for too much of it and felt it detracted from the flavor. I substituted chicken broth and also added some hot pepper flakes.
