Best Ever Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2011
I am saying this is an excellent banana bread even tho I had to make one change - too sweet, but again that is a matter of taste (and health). Perfectly moist and no problem making it less sweet. I would not change anything else and staill rate a recipe because it isn 't fair to the contributor or others. Thanks for adding something else that is great to my recipe files. Did I say that it is probably the easiest banana bread - well it is!!!!!!

Baking Mix Blackberry Cobbler

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2011
Absolutely love blackberries but very expensive in the shops here. Fortunately right now they have a special so a wonderful excuse to try this. The only fault was the sweetness so reduced the sugar by almost half and added 2 tsps. of fresh lemon juice. Thanks for a nice simple cobbler........

Creamy Carrot Soup

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2011
Very good soup but using freshly grated ginger makes a big difference. Also, after experimenting I add 1/2 cup freshly squeezed orange juice. Either way it is excellent but my suggestions give it a little more life. For those who are vegetarian just substitute vegetable broth because I cook for a vegetarian friend often and this is what I do and she is very happy.

Sauteed Apples

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2011
Very good way to serve apples (Granny Smith are best) but, for me, it needs a dash of fresh lemon juice. This always brings out the flavor in apples. Makes an excellent sauce for roast pork or tenderloin.

Cherry Mallow Dessert

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2011
Have made this recipe many times (doubled). Needs to sit overnight. I do not put the pie filling on the bottom but rather a layer of marshmallow, all the pie filling and then another layer of marshmallow. Always very popular and keep well. Will also freeze.

Strawberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
Every now and then (but not often) one finds a little jewel like this that is not loaded with butter. A simple batter that happens to turn out tasting like you spent hrs. on it with high fat content. Grated there is butter in the topping, but if this is a problem just don't eat it. Thanks for a great little gem which will be made often.

Strawberry Rhubarb Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
Excellent cake and versatile. If you don't like rhubarb then substitute whatever filling you want. It is so easy compared to many and certainly better than local coffee shop products (which we tend to avoid). Actually, I make most of my own cakes, etc. because have proved they are better and this one is in the top rated. Good eating...... and don't substitute please.

Date Flecked Orange Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2011
Love the combination of orange and dates. A bit too sweet for us but it is easy to cut back on sugar for individual tastes. Do suggest that butter is used (and at room temperature) because that is where you get the wonderful flavor. Also find that 1 tsp. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. of baking soda works well. Sometimes you can taste baking soda and it takes away from the flavor.

Cottage Pudding (Cake for Strawberry Shortcake)

Reviewed: Jun. 3, 2011
This is our favorite base for strawberries (or any other fruit). I prefer to use butter and this has to be extremely well creamed with sugar. You can also cut back on sugar by 1/4 cup. Do not overmix when adding flour and milk. These are just a few tips on this little gem of a cake being successful. Can also be used for an upside down cake - the possibilities are endless. Enjoy and thanks for submitting something straightforward and simple.

Cranberry Orange Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
This is probably the best cranberry bread I have found and perfect as submitted. Because we try to cut back on sugar I only use 3/4 cup. I do suggest that you double the orange rind because I feel it needs the extra zing. Thanks for submitting.

Apricot Brandy Pound Cake I

Reviewed: May 31, 2011
I think I have spent years trying to hide a "cake mix taste" and this one almost accomplishes. Also, it is wonderful to the taste buds and most people don't care if it comes from a mix or not. Guess I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist where baking is concerned.

White Chocolate Cheesecake with White Chocolate Brandy Sauce

Reviewed: May 31, 2011
The best white chocolate cheesecake (at least for my taste) that I have found. It is the chocolate brandy sauce that puts it over the top. Gives the white chocolate flavour some zing and also does not taste sickenly sweet. Thanks goes into my file forever.

Pumpkin Bread VI

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
I like the orange flavor but by using whole wheat flour it makes it too mealy or dry whichever you want to call it. Using just all purpose flour is a big big improvement but, of course, not so healthy. Afraid I go for taste.

Delicious Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
I was hoping this would be the perfect pumpkin bread but, as with most pumpkin breads, it is just too sweet for me and also too oily. Needs adjusting which I do constantly and also too much baking soda because we do not like that taste. Sorry, too many adjustments to rate as it stands. The basics are there if you want to play around with them.

Cabbage Saute

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
We happen to love cabbage and I make a very similar saute to this but minus the sugar. I add some red pepper flakes, garlic and dill. But this is because we like these seasonings. We could make a meal of this dish.

A Good Easy Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
My first negative comment is to the people who change the recipe, almost completely and then rate it................ anyway, very much enjoyed as written but would use Olive oil the next time and add some extra garlic. Thanks for such an easy dish to prepare in a hurry and with lovely tasty and moist results (minus the chicken broth).

Joy's Prizewinning Trifle

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
We normally only like trifle made with homemade custard (the British one) but have to admit this is very good and will be used as an alternative. I agree that, if you can find it, white chocolate instant pudding is better.

Cream Cheese Brownies III

Reviewed: May 25, 2011
This is definitely a 5 star brownie and had one very similar to this. Having said this I sometimes change it slightly by incorporating finely diced and drained maraschino cherries into the cream cheese mixture (with a hint of almond extract). This does not alter my review of 5 stars on this recipe but just another way of changing the flavors. Highly recommend this brownie and for the reviewer who used a pyrex dish I agree that it isn't the right one!!having had similar experiences in the past.
