About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Anything delicious.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving. It is a time for the womenfolk to swear together in the kitchen and drink mimosas from the crack of 10 (we don't do the dawn thing) while the menfolk stay sober to run to the store for anything we have forgotten. Good food and good company is a tradition that should always persist.
My cooking triumphs
This is still a work in progress. What may well be the holy-grail of rum balls is through its alpha and beta versions. There is well-founded hope that the gamma version will be perfect.
My cooking tragedies
There is nothing in cooking that is a tragedy. The world does not end if you burn the sauce. Just make a note of what you did wrong, and don't do it again. And always use a thermometer when grilling chicken in the dark.

Grilled Asparagus Salad
I've made this several times both with grilled and sauted asparagus. Every time I have found it immensely enjoyable. It makes a very good, refreshing, citrusy salad that is perfect for summer.

Peppy's Pita Bread
I've tried making this recipe a couple of times, but it just seems to be lacking something that is in the pita bread you get at good Middle Eastern restaurants and stores. It is a good imitation, but it is definitely not the original.

Truck-Stop Buttermilk Pancakes
This recipe makes some of the best pancakes around. I would recommend scaling it down to the amount needed immediately, though, as when I tried to save the batter it went moldy after a day.
