Sausage Cabbage Skillet

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2011
This was overall a simple and quick meal, but we felt the flavor was missing something. We tried adding a bit of vinegar, but that wasn't it!

Baked Spaghetti Squash Lasagna Style

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
I personally loved this recipe. My only change was adding a bit of italian sausage in with the garlic and onions for the sauce and baking it in a dish. My family, however, wasn't so enthusiastic. My picky 3-1/2-year old wouldn't eat it and my husband, who doesn't like squash in the first place, said it was okay and he would rather have the carbs with the pasta noodles. Well, this was my first time trying spaghetti squash and I loved the texture of it with the sauce and cheese. I will make this again for myself, anyway. Next time I might season the squash with a little salt and pepper after I scrape it out of the rind.

Harvest Rice Dish

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
This dish was pretty original, I thought. The cranberries made it way too sweet, though, and I only put in 2/3 of a cup to begin with. If we make this again we may omit the cranberries all together because the caramelized onions add a lot of sweetness on their own. We may put in a bit less orange zest also.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2011
I loved this meatloaf! A little too sweet for our tastes, and I reduced the brown sugar to 1/3 to begin with. Next time will reduce even further. We baked it in a casserole dish as others suggested and put the brown sugar and ketchup on top. Also, I used bread crumbs because I didn't have saltines. I thought a bit of ginger would be good with the sweetness of the brown sugar, so will try that next time also. Thanks for the recipe!

Drop Biscuits and Gravy

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
I didn't like the biscuits so much and prefer a more buttery biscuit, but my family enjoys the gravy part. Will make the gravy again for sure!

Grain and Nut Whole Wheat Pancakes

Yum! Now if I can just find a good recipe for the butter pecan syrup at IHOP we will be in heaven.

Chocolate Syrup

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2011
Mine turned out a bit runnier than the store-bought kind, but it still does the trick for making chocolate milk and for putting on ice cream! Delicious!

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2011
Yummy! I used sour apples and it needed the full amount of sugar, in my opinion. I put half the amount of water in and it didn't really need it. Don't think I would change anything else--it was great!

Banana Oat Muffins

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
Oooo, wow these are good! I couldn't resist adding walnuts, cinnamon, and nutmeg to make them resemble the flavor of my grandma's banana oatmeal cookies. I also only put in about 1/3 cup of sugar and substituted applesauce for the oil. SO good! I will definitely be making these again very soon!

Italian Dressing Mix

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
I love this recipe! I've been making dressing out of it for a couple of months and it is my new staple dressing. I agree that it is too salty for my taste as written and usually substitute garlic salt for the garlic powder and leave out the other salt entirely. Also, I sometimes leave out the thyme (personal preference). This makes wonderful dressing with 2 or 3 tablespoons of grated parmesan mixed in with the oil and vinegar too!

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken

Reviewed: May 10, 2011
This is an easy way to roast a whole chicken and I love the method. I used potatoes in the bottom of the slow cooker rather than aluminum foil, as others suggested. Super easy!

BBQ Chicken Pizza II

Reviewed: May 10, 2011
This was great! I used homemade crust and homemade BBQ sauce with mozzarella instead of monterey jack (don't have that in Germany). Also, I sauteed the onions and peppers for a few minutes in the same pan I cooked the chicken in. It was great! Will definitely make again.

Raspberry and Almond Shortbread Thumbprints

I have been making these for Christmas cookies for the past few years and they are great! I haven't tried the glaze before, though, because I think they are great without it.

Blueberry Coffee Cake

Reviewed: May 10, 2011
This was pretty good. I creamed the cream cheese in with the butter and sugar and you couldn't tell it was there. I think I would rather eat a blueberry muffin, though, and stick to regular coffee cake!

Big Al's K.C. Bar-B-Q Sauce

Reviewed: May 10, 2011
I too thought this was a tad vinegary. I will probably make this again and reduce the vinegar a bit. Overall, very good for my second try at homemade BBQ sauce. Much better than the first recipe I tried!

Old-Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
This shortcake was SO good! Just slightly sweet and perfect for soaking up the berry juice. Just like what my mom makes! I didn't use a whole cup of sugar, more like 1/3 c and it was sweet enough for us.

Basic Biscuits

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
FINALLY a biscuit recipe that actually turns out. This is the fourth biscuit recipe I have tried from this site and this was the first one that turned out flakey and soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. I used butter and grated it with a cheese grater like someone suggested. Then I turned it out onto the counter, flattened it slightly, and cut it into pieces with a knife rather than making perfect circles. So easy and will definitely be my regular biscuit recipe!

Lebanese Chicken and Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
This dish was OK. I used boneless breasts and didn't cook them the whole time with the potatoes. I added a dash of 5-spice when I seasoned them up as someone suggested. I may try it again with the bone-in chicken pieces and see how it turns out.
